Haiku and more Chronicles
Days fly by!
It’s already Friday so here I am with another book title haiku for
Haiku My Heart Friday
| In ongenade
Ontwaken uit dagdromen Heldere hemel |
In disgrace
Awakening from daydreaming Under a clear sky |
*Again I had trouble with translating the Dutch titles (and still I didn’t get the syllables right.) The book by Coetzee is titled ‘Disgrace’ in English, but that has not quite the same ‘deepness’ as the Dutch title – where the extra word ‘in’ was added. Also, when I would translate the title of the bottom book accurately, it would just says “Clear Sky”. However, when these words are used in Dutch, one automatically thinks of a certain verb/phrase (Als een donderslag bij heldere hemel ~ “Like a bolt from the blue.”)
I like the references and double meanings that words sometime have, but it makes it impossible to translate (let alone translate with the right amount of syllables!) See how much words I need already to explain the rather short poem? Oh well, believe me when I say the Dutch version of my book title haiku evokes a story that the English readers might not get this time.
If you love haiku, Friday is the day for you ’cause you can find haiku all over the Internet. You don’t even have to seek for it yourself. Our lovely hostess Rebecca gathers all haiku lovers on her blog Recuerda Mi Corazon. Just hop on over to find the list of participants there. Each name hides a blogpost where you can find a haiku… isn’t that a great way to start the weekend?
..
I still have not showed you all the ‘stuff’ I made during my blogbreak. Yes, I kept track of my ‘Chronicles’ during that period and today I will give you the complete update – right to the very last page I made (the one from last week.)
The Chronicles of Marit 2013 – Week 5
..
The Chronicles of Marit 2013 – Week 6
..
The Chronicles of Marit 2013 – Week 7
The last spread shows a big (old) photo of me where I’ve written all over. It was a test to see how that would look like, as I have an idea in mind for a certain series of art journal pages. I noticed in the last few weeks that I somehow began to use my ‘Chronicles’ to try out certain techniques. I like that the Chronicles functions not only as ‘diary’ but also as a journal to scribble and test ideas. It’s more of a ‘mix journal’ today then it ever was before.
..
And that’s it for today dear ones… I have to ‘pack my bags’ because next Monday I will leave on The Big Road Trip – you ARE coming with me, right? Did you gather your stuff already? Want to know which route we are taking again? Find the announcement HERE.
See you next Monday on the airport.

Hoi Marit,
Wat een prachtige pagina’s weer!
Vooral die met de foto van jou,
Mooi die overgang in lettersoorten.
De letters lijken wel haar op een of andere manier.
Goed weekend, rust lekker uit voor de reis maandag

I love the book titles. The syllables don’t always work out, but the poetry and essence is there. I also love your chronicles. A friend turned me on to a collage type of mail art. These seem to fit right in to it.
I need to return and read again about the Big Road Trip. I live for road trips. Some people do yoga to meditate, I use a windshield of a car or motorcycle. Sounds like the trip will be fun. I hope i can be along.
I’ve been taking a break as well, and not sure if I’m back totally or not, but here today at least. Love your work and spirit.
Peace

I don’t think the essence is lost in translation.

What a great idea. I’ve always wanted to set up a virtual walk across the US but could not quite get it together. When you come to NYC don’t forget to go to the Frick and the Cloisters!

At first I thought that you were saying that it was a disgrace to be daydreaming, and that got me riled up! Phew!

I always appreciate the fact that you are bi-lingual (maybe tri- or more?)
Anyway that amazes me…and I love peeking into your art journal, so inspiring! I always try new ideas in my journal too…even if I don’t like it so much, there is no harm done♥♥

I’ve come to look forward to you clever book title haikus every week. Nice journal pages too. The detail very much reflects your attention to detail.
