You all know in what state of mind I was last week, don’t you?
Indeed; A New York State Of Mind ~ Billy Joel ~
… and I was not the only one, because I received quite some submissions from blog readers who picked up the BIG Road Trip and emailed me their stories and art.
Nout (who, by the way, is my son) made a 6 weeks road trip (in real life!) through the United States in the Summer of 2010. He took a whole bunch of photos and submitted these two for my BIG Road TRip series (you will probably see more photos in the next posts, as he traveled through a lot of states.) Anyway, these were made in New York City.
Cheryl submitted photos of art that she created as a result of her trips to the Big Apple.
- The first is an acrylic painting on canvas.
- The second is a mixed media collage on canvas with a smaller canvas board attached.
- The third consists of 3 views of a shadow box made inside a book cover titled “I’ll Take Manhattan”. The photos show the front cover, a side view and both sides of the inside of the box.
She said: “You can probably tell that I LOVE NYC!”
(Yes Cheryl, we can )
Oh, and Cheryl also shared this tip: “One more recommendation when traveling about the city, be sure to check out the windows and displays of the Anthropologie stores – great artist inspirations!”
Pat, Altering Thoughts
Pat wrote: “… I have been to New York, for two very short days about 20 years ago. I have wanted to go back ever since. We arrived about 9 o’clock at night and the first glimpse of the city lights on the horizon remains with me. Our hotel was just round the corner from Times Square and we threw our bags in the room and dashed out to see this famous place. The following evening we were taken by a friend to see his New York, Little Italy. We packed a lot into that two days but these are the stand out moments.”
Here’s the photo and art Pat submitted
Marcia Beckett, Dabblings
Marcia send in a New York journal page!
” I took this photo when I visited NY for an art teacher conference.”
Jane, Glasgow Painter
Jane visited New York in May 2012 for a four week residency with the Art Student’s League Residency out at Vytlacil – her first post about that can be found HERE
During the four weeks, Jane kept her blogreaders posted and those posts can be found on her blog HERE
She says “There are a few things about the galleries [in these posts] but most of it unfortunately is about my painting so a little dull. One of the paintings that can be seen in progress (The Little Mermaid) did end up winning a prize, though!”
Jane also wrote a post with a summary of art supply stores in New York City (including google map) that you may find useful if you live – or are visiting – New York City and oddly, Making A Mark Reviews have just been updating their info on New York so that link is worth a visit too!
Jill Zaheer, Jazworks
Jill was a little bit late with her submission, but her photos are too beautiful to leave them out.
Here’s what she emailed me:
“Thought I’d share a photo perspective of some of my favorite NYC sights of sites! I spend lots of time in central park – to me this has been a haven of joy filled with as much art, composition and
creative juices as one can find in the most idyllic of places – it’s my hidden diamond in the city as a shop of jewels! So take a little walk with me throughout the city and peruse at your own pace!”
At the end of the week, we will be leaving New York City and hit the road – our next stop will be New Jersey. I’m still trying to decide which transport I will take to get there… bus? Train? Bike? Any preferences, someone? (and why?)
Well, whatever transport I take, I know for sure that when I get there, a good friend of mine will be waiting to welcome me and show me around. She even offered me to ‘sleep over’ while I’m in New Jersey, now that will be FUN!!
P.S. I’m looking for artists living in Delaware and Maryland. Are you a resident of one of these states and do you want to be our guide and write a guestpost about ‘your state’, please contact me at bigroadtrip[at]maritspaperworld[dot]com.
