Goodmorning lovelies, remember this photo?
Yes, that’s the journal I bound to use as my Chronicles for 2018… I posted this photo before, back in December when I’d finished binding it, and told you that – as you can see – it’s a square journal. I also wrote “I never had square ‘Chronicles’ journal before and I hope this shape will grow on me..”
I always use the first page of my Chronicles to note my One Little Word for the year. Like so many, I don’t make New Year’s resolutions but instead choose a word of the year. The tradition of “One Little Word” (or OLW) started with Ali Edwards, who founded OLW. The idea is to choose one word to symbolize the intention you have for the new year. Just one little word that you can focus on, mediate on and reflect upon. From experience I can tell you that such a little word can be quite powerful!
For 2018 I chose the word ‘ Breathe.’ I want to stay close to myself, keep the balance within, ‘keep breathing’ so to speak. And then there is the literal variant: I need to watch my breathing when I’m laying in my bed… I discovered the “4-7-8 breathing-method” to fall asleep more easily and it works. (At least for me it does.)
I had no problems creating that first page (on a square shape page size 20 x 20 cm – 7.9 x 7.9 inch) but then I turned the page to start working on a spread for ‘Week 1’ and OHMY… this landscape shape was something different!
It will be quite a challenge to create weekly pages on this size and shape… it’s way out of my comfort zone but I’m sure it will get easier and easier as the weeks pass.
Before I sign off, there’s one last thing I want to announce, it may be especially interesting for the Dutchies
On February 10 I will teach an Art Journaling workshop at “The Scrapheap” in Sprang-Capelle (The Netherlands.) I’ll teach you how to create substantive personal art journal pages that look beautiful as well. We will explore how to write meaningful texts, the use of color to strengthen the feel of the page, collages, composition and all other common questions & techniques that will come up during the day. Inspired by the examples, challenges and tips & tricks you will create pages in your own art journal on which your personality shines through.
Registration is open at De Scrapheap
And so we dive into week three of this year…. my motto?
Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World!
