Goodmorning “Deskers” – and a Happy New Year to you!
I haven’t been around at woyww the last weeks of 2014, because of the Top 2000 event on my blog. Today is the first Wednesday of 2015 and I’m back in the game again!
I have some slightly different photos for you today – it’s not of my desk in the atelier because I worked on the dining table for a change… come on in and see what I was up to…
I closed the ‘Chronicles of Marit 2014’ art journal at the end of the year (see last pages/photos HERE) and so I had to bind me a new journal to fill up in 2015.
As it was evening when I started binding the folded signatures, I took my stuff up to the dining table in the living room, so I could chat with my beloved while binding and listen to the talkshow he was watching…
… and early in the morning I found the table looking like this…
(you will have to do with dark photos this time because it was only 7 am and still dark outside… but I didn’t want to wait ’till sunrise ‘ to take photos – I just wanted to go on with the binding and finishing my journal. These pics were taken with lamplight.)
I wanted to bind the Chronicles journal for 2015 in a slightly different way, and it was quite a system I had worked out to get the thread and signatures right…
Here’s the ‘binding template’ I made to stitch every signature in its right place…
Halfway through the binding…
And here’s the finished journal. I used the same photo on the cover as the one that I used on the cover of my ‘Top 2000 journal’ because I like the picture so much. It’s a photo of Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) playing on Woodstock (1969)
What’s On My Workdesk? Wednesday is a weekly blogseries/hop hosted by Julia in the United Kingdom and lots of crafty people share photos of their desks every Wednesday.
I hope you all had a nice, creative ‘starting 2015’ week too.
Stay inspired and creative, keep it going…!!!

Oooh very cool! Have you ever been to this site for bookbinding patterns? I love them all. http://beccamakingfaces.com/2012/10/07/the-theory-of-japanese-stab-binding/
I’ve done a few of her patterns and they always turn out lovely. Have a look. Maybe for NEXT year’s chronicles? ๐
Happy First WOYWW of 2015!

Your journal looks fantastic – I love the leather and your binding of the signatures creates it’s own beautiful element. Looking forward to seeing what goes inside as the year progresses!

Wow. that looks complicated! Everyone seems to be bookbinding – well you’re the 2nd and I’ve only visited three desks. However I know you have done this before – looks awesome! Happy WOYWW Cindy #44

Goodness, that’s really clever. We only know one stitch to bind a book, maybe we should look for more.

I LOVE the idea of the leather spine. I’ve never tried that before. Thanks for sharing your binding method – I’ve found it very interesting! Great that you do your own journal! Happy WOYWW! zsuzsa @ InkyDinkyDoodle #27

Wat gaaf om te zien hoe zo een nieuw journal ‘geboren’ wordt!
Aan de buitenkant kan het niet liggen, het gaat vast een mooi creatief jaar worden ๐

This is absolutely stunning. I was very, very impressed. Sorry I haven’t been around more this past year, but real life got in the way.
Happy belated New Year and happy WOYWW from # 2.

Happy New Year, Marit. Wow, that’s some book binding, you are so good at it.
I’m on the dining room table too, much brighter and so nice to be amongst family life instead of shut away in the dark months of winter.

That binding is lovely, very special (I’ve never seen it before)
I really enjoyed listening to the top 2000. Thank you for suggesting it. I wasn’t home (we have a holiday home that we spent Christmas and New year at) so I didn’t create anything, but I managed to rig up my laptop to a pair of speakers and listen.
I’ve started an art journal too. It’s very scary as I’ve never used a paintbrush before. I’m following DLP so there are some instruction videos. But it’s exciting at the same time.
Have a great week,
Lisca#25

Wow!! That looks like a lot of work!! Turned out brilliantly though – bravo!

That binding really looks cool, the leather spine is a fab detail and probably gives the spine a flexible strength. Happy WOYWW!

This is certainly a different approach this year to your blog and I am really liking it. Now a different binding method which looks really awesome by the way and good for you. I can’t wait to see the end result.
