Good morning, good morning on this gray and rainy day… luckely the light in my atelier is always bright as we live on the third floor and the windows in my atelier are located to the North-West. My desk is ready to play, I started already on a new Chronicles art journal page but there is also two books I bought yesterday in a second hand store on my desk. My fingers itch to start altering the Science book, but I will put it aside for now as there is too much I want (have) to do first. Have a look at my desk…
Detail photos
Why do I post a photo of my desk, you may ask? That is because it is Wednesday… What’s On Your Work desk? Wednesday! This ‘event’ is hosted by Julia from the UK. Artists from all over the world post a photo of their desk on their blog and leave a link at Julia’s blog. More info about woyww can be found here.
The Documented Life Project
Last week I created several art journal pages for The Documented Life Project and caught up with the challenges I’d missed. The page I created for DLP #9 is to be found in this post, today I show you what I created for challenge #10
March 7
March Theme: Making Your Mark (Doodles & Mark Making)
Art Challenge: As A Layer Element
Journal Prompt: Surviving the Elements
For the Documented Life Project I work on old book pages. For challenge #10 I covered the page with a thin layer of gesso (you can still see some text shimmer through.) I smeared extra gesso on some parts of the page, which I heated with a heat gun. The gesso starts bubbling then, resulting in nice texture. I glued on some band aid, scraps of paper and a cut out photo. The photo shows a child on the run for a flood – it is cut out from a book about the ‘Watersnoodramp 1953’ (flood disaster of 1953) The paper scrap torn out of a dictionary says ‘flood’. I stamped with bubble wrap plastic and ribbed cardboard to ‘make my mark’ and doodled some circles. I sprayed just a little bit of graphite spray ink in the right top corner and the cut out text – glued onto the page – completes the ‘story.’
Thanks for stopping by my blog today, and when there’s a flood in your part of the world: run. If it is only raining, this might be a nice way to approach it:
Let the rain kiss you.
Let the rain beat upon your head with silver liquid drops.
Let the rain sing you a lullaby.

I love your page for project life, lovely texture and colour. Your desk is so tidy and organised I always love to see it.
We’ve also had bad weather but unfortunately my room has no heating so when it’s cold I can’t do much crafting.

I’m also doing the DLP this year. I typically use a Strathmore Visual Journal Mixed Media – vellum finish. for my pieces. I seem to be moving away from 2 page spreads and using the left page as an index or pallet or practice area. Really enjoying the process. Hope you are too.
Happy WOYWW
Thx for sharing

Thank you for showing you Flood page. It’s beautiful. So much texture, the intriguing half photo and the limited colours all make it very special. Well done!
I like the anatomy book. Are you going to leave the cover as it is?
Have a great week,
Lisca#9
Marit says
Lisca – yes, I like the cover of the anatomy book so much that I want to leave it this way… I’m puzzling now to find an appropriate theme for the journal so that the cover will fit with the content.

Great page you are creating and I think the horses head will work brilliantly. The book you have bought will make a wonderful art journal – the cover is perfect.

Hi Marit, your desk is busy as ever! Lots of stuff there – but as always, it’s so neatly stored and arranged, that it doesn’t look messy. I have half that amount on my actual desk – and loads of stuff scattered around the room – but it looks such a mess!
I like that you’re going to turn an old book into a new book – that seems right to me and the image on the cover is so striking.
Love the little poem about rain!
