Pfeeeeeewwwww….
I wrote 64 pages in the last four weeks.
Articles for the next issue of Creatief met Foto’s.
I made the deadlines.
It’s done for now (until the next issue 😉 )
I will have freewheelin’ time, YEEEAAAAAYYY!
Last weekend, I had a foretaste of how that feels like.
I made a few things and I prepared a few projects.
I want to show you some of what I did.
(Not everything – that would be too much photos.
You will see more coming in the next post.)
Last Sunday was Father’s Day.
Here’s the card I made for my dear daddy…
(Click on the pictures to enlarge for a better view)
(Front and back card. 14,8 x 21 cm - 5.8 x 8.3 inch)
The quote on the card is by Euripides and says something like:
“No better inheritance then to be a daughter of an excellent father.”
And of course I send it to him in a fun envelope!
(I got the idea to embroider the sides from Terri, who shows some
lovely Gift Card envelopes on her blog here)
(Front and back envelope. 16 x 22 cm - 6.3 x 8.7 inch)
And here’s my weekly page in the ongoing ‘chronicles’ art journal.
I can’t do without making my weekly page, even when I’m loaded with work
and very busy with other things, I just have to have some free time – if only
a couple of minutes – to make a weekly page.
I know other people struggle with keeping a journal like this going.
They somehow suffer from the pressure, the ‘must do’ every week; but to me
it’s my escape, it keeps the creativity going, it keeps me sane like my (written)
diaries used to do and I never feel it as a must.
The Chronicles of Marit 2011 – Week 24
(23 x 31 cm - 9.1 x 12.2 inch)
I often work on different pages at the same time.
Cut out images that won’t do on one page, are often useful on another page.
I also like to keep going when something has to dry, so I switch from one
art journal to another all the time. Here’s the two pages (spread) I created
last weekend while working in my Chronicles. See the similarity in colours
and atmosphere/mood?
(29,7 x 42 cm - 11.7 x 16.9 inch)
The text is part of the lyrics ‘Thuis’ (Home) – The Scene
achter me vele mooie uren
achter me veel van wat ik wil achter me kan ik niets meer sturen en voor me, voor me is het stil |
behind me, many beautiful hours
behind me, a lot of what I want behind me, I can’t steer anything and before me, before me lies silence |
(I hope my poor translation does this text justice…)
I am looking forward to an exciting and special moment coming this week!
I’ll tell you about it on Friday.
I hope your week will be beautiful too!

You do such beautiful work!
I love your card, but the envelope is just as amazing!!! 🙂

Great stuff, Marit. I especially like the last page. The strips certainly look a path going off in the distance. Reminds me of Sketchbook Challenge currently is running the theme Pathways for June. I haven’t done anything for that yet.

Love your father’s day card, and what a super idea to stitch the envelope! Have fun creating while you have this free-time – I am so impressed by the amount of writing and journal pages that you accomplish! Have a great week!

Love the Father’s Day card and envelope – you use dimensional paint so well! I really enjoy watching your art journals appear, week by week. And to have written so much and still found time for us at summercamp – you are my hero, Marit! xo

I am sure your dad loved the quirky Marit card and envelop ! So cool.
I have been away from my journal for a few weeks now. I am so itchy to create…It will have to wait until next week when some household obligations are fulfilled.
Happy Summer, Lovely One !

wow, what a beautiful father’s day card – the quote is too wonderful (and true!)
your journal inspires me, and also how you view is as an escape…i’ve been wanting to start an art journal, but never really understood the purpose. i think if i view it as you do, and consider “art for my sake” – i might be able to pull it off! thanks!
