Friday haiku and giggles

February 22, 2019 By Marit 6 Comments

Goodmorning lovely ones, here’s a Friday note from foggy Netherlands… yes, the city is covered in a blanket and all is quiet outside. My friend Lena, who lives in a nearby village, cycled through the misty fields this morning to go to her work in the city. Halfway, she got off her bike to take this picture.

Friday haiku

Photo made by my friend Lena Schreijenberg

Mistig akkerland
een mus in de boom, kunnen
vogels verdwalen?
Fog over the fields
a Sparrow in the tree, do
birds get lost at times?

I submit this haiku to Recuerda Mi Corazon where our lovely hostess Rebecca brings us all together to share a haiku on Friday: Haiku my Heart.

Above photo and haiku are rather quiet but the next thing I’d like to show is the opposite… FUN & LOUD! As you know, I am an art journal artist but a couple of weeks ago I got stuck in my work and decided to create something else, just for a change and to find back the ‘fun’ of creating. I thought about coloring-books, but there’s not much fun in coloring the images others made for you.. so I turned to an old hobby of mine: scrapbooking! I found a Dutch challenge Facebook group that provides themes and sketches to get you started and I took this sketch to work with.

Next, I got out the box filled with all kinds of photos (nothing organised there…) and found these pictures, taken in 2016 by Anda van Riet in the Community Center nearby my former apartment. I lived in a big apartment-building for four years and although I was over-the-moon happy to move out, there’s one man I miss… neighbor Hansie! (Well of course we can visit each other – we still live in the same, small town – we just don’t live a couple of doors away from each other anymore…)

… anyway, Hans and I always had great fun and giggles when we got together. We both visited the Community Center on a regular base where they called us “Frick & Frack” and labelled Hans to be “Marit’s second husband” (and since Hans is super-duper gay, I didn’t mind to have him as a bonus-spouse ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

As I said, I wanted to re-discover the fun of creating and nothing better than to use these photos to do that. I took out all the ‘happy paper ‘n stuff’ I could find in my stash and created this layout.

A good neighbour is worth more than a distant friend

On the bigger photo, there’s a curtain hanging in front of Hans’ head so I gave him a crown to cover the curtain… “King Hans” – can you tell I felt like a playful child while making this?

I’m all back into the flow now, and hope to get back to art journaling this weekend.
I wish you a beautiful weekend too.
Hug your loved ones.
Give your neighbor a crown.
Have a giggle.
Enjoy!

I think not. Birds seem to always know, and if not, they are so in the moment I don’t even think they would know they were lost… Me, however. I am completely lost into the beauty of your words and Lena’s photo and delighting in your artmaking! Thank you dear Marit!

Enjoyed seeing your foggy day. I often wonder about birds in the inclement weather.

this bird has surely been lost…navigating sorrow.
thank you for keeping a light in your heart and sending hope my way.
    one step at a time.
