Good morning, good morning, GOOD MORNING it is!
Aaah… hard work pays off! Yesterday evening (late) we
managed to upload the FEATURING store on the website!
It was a lot of work to figure out the shipping costs for all the different
countries in the world – I came across countries I never even heard off
– but we managed to find all the info and get it into a ‘shop-script.’
On the inchie page are the guidelines about how to submit inchies,
and you will find a table of contents for the first magazine in the store.
I am convinced that you will be amazed of what FEATURING has to offer.
And yes, it is possible to order your copy of the magazine already.
If I were you I would do that 😉 because you don’t want to miss our
first magazine do you? 😀
We expect to start shipping the magazine in the second half of April.
Sooo… what are you waiting for?
Check it all out on the FEATURING website
(… don’t forget to come back here if you want to see my latest artwork…)
Oh, and did you notice the deadline for submissions for the theme gallery
of issue #1 has passed. The artists who will be featured in our first theme
gallery are already notified. The theme for the second issue is now open
for submissions. The new theme is ‘THE ROAD AHEAD…’
I can’t let this Tuesday post go without showing my weekly page, can I?
I bet some of you step by my blog especially on Tuesdays to see my ‘week’.
..
I will not disappoint you… here it is. (Click on the image to enlarge)
The Chronicles of Marit 2012 – Week 9
(Size: 24,5 x 49 cm – 9.65 x 14.86 inch)As you can see, the whole week is about copyright.
After the interview I had with the copyright lawyer, I listened back to the
2.5 hours conversation on tape, took notes and started writing the article.
(I must say I had a hard time listening to my own voice – I have a ‘chicken
voice’, although my men say that’s not true… I think I’m no exception though –
most people don’t like the sound of their own voice when they hear it back
on tape, am I right?)Anyway, I spend the rest of the week writing and reading about intellectual
property and checking things on the Internet. It almost felt like I did a study
on copyright issues and law…Which brings me to something not so nice:Â someone pointed out to me some
interesting things about Pinterest. I never showed much interest in Pinterest
myself and I am not a member, but I know a lot of people are hooked on
‘pinning.’ Well, it seems Pinterest is beginning to gather a lot of attention and
criticism for widespread copyright infringement.I don’t want to spoil your party and if you decide to bury your head in the sand
you go right ahead, but for the ones who’d like to know: here’s a link to the best
written (in my opinion) text and explanation on this matter. Why I tearfully deleted my Pinterest Inspiration Boards
I am all for sharing your work, spreading the love for art, showing the pieces
that inspire you etc. And yes, we all make mistakes in leaving credits out
or using images in a wrong (illegal) way. I’m no saint either, I learned more
about that last week diving into copyright laws…So let me say this straight:
You are welcome to share my art – but you have to give credits where credit
is due. And I certainly don’t want to have my art published on a site that
infringes copyright or thinks it has the right to ‘sell’ my work and get all the
profits. That’s why I blocked ‘pinning’ from my blog.Sorry I gave some of you a sad end of this blog post…
I thought about it and still hesitate to mention this matter on my blog –
but with copyrights on my mind all week I can not leave this unsaid.
I do hope you all have a lovely week anyway!**Evening – update.
Did the news about Pinterest scare you?
Here’s an update that you might like then…My date with Ben Silbermann – following up and drying my tears
Feeling better now? Right! I’m glad you do!
Good luck with the magazine, looking forward to getting my first copy (yes, my order is in). 🙂
So excited about the magazine!!! Loving your journal page too!!! BEAUTIFUL colors!! I am still divided on the whole Pinterest thing… me pinning it, or me saving it as a bookmarked page on my computer…the difference is what?? I have been thinking about that since all this stirred up… I was bookmarking stuff to my computer YEARS before pinning came around, going back for inspo etc…but one thing I can say… I have NEVER lifted anyone without giving credit… it’s only right!!
Julie, it’s no so much about bookmarking or sharing it – or keeping it for your own inspiration. It’s about the terms where Pinterest says it can SELL pinned work and the fact that Pinterest strips all metadata from the pinned photos, so the copyright data will be gone. YOU, as a user, will be held responsable for that when it comes to a claim (Pinterest states that in it’s terms)
Spannend dat het allemaal nu toch wel heel echt begint te worden met featuring. Ben heel benieuwd.

I am so excited about this magazine. Can`t wait to see 🙂

Thanks, I needed that follow up article to share with a friend. I have my way of using Pinterest. I am certainly cognizant of people’s rights. You bring up some valid information.
