Last weekend, I met Lea from the US and Kimberly from the UK – both ladies
I met through the haiku-circle – and how very special this meeting was!
I’ll tell you all about it (and show photos of course) in a minute, but because
of Haiku my Heart Friday: let’s start with a haiku first.
Size: 30.5 x 11 cm - 12 x 4.3 inch Materials: Adirondack Colorwash spray ink, Salt, Indian ink, Water
…
Pootloze dieren
drijven op de muur – Ik ben in een diepe trance |
Legless animals
float on the wall – I must be in a state of trance |
Haiku my Heart is hosted by Rebecca, and without this lovely lady,
Lea, Kimberly and I wouldn’t have met. You were there in spirit Rebecca!

Now on to ‘World Labyrinth Day’…
..
My beloved and I took the train to Rotterdam where ‘World Labyrinth Day’
was celebrated in the ‘Wereldmuseum’. There were all kinds of lectures,
Kimberly’s husband Jeff had to speak, and there were labyrinths to walk…
but we went there mainly to meet the “Labyrinth ladies”.
‘It felt like meeting very old and dear friends for the very first time‘ was
what Kim emailed me later, and I couldn’t have said it any better.
Here’s a photo impression.
(The photos came out a bit blur, but they sure show the happiness, love
and warmth of the day!)
Kimberly and Lea unpacking the small canvasses I made for them.
You only see the back of the canvasses, ’cause I totally forgot to photograph
the art pieces – must have been the excitement I felt of meeting them.
See that small, silver bag laying on the table?
It holds a small vase that Lea made for me.
Here is a photo up close…
The vase is made of some kind of plant seed or something? I remember Lea
did tell me, but I was in too much aawe and ooh, so I didn’t listen very well.
The process of colouring involved alcohol ink and wax.
(Hear that Lea? Ha, I was not completely out of the world after all! )
Anyway – she will have to explain again how she made it someday 🙂
I DO remember what it is for though: this teeny weeny vase is meant to hold
wishes! You are supposed to whisper your wishes into it and keep them safe
and sound inside the vase. Magical, isn’t it?!
Kimberly, yours truly and Lea
Lea is holding her little canvas, so you see a glimpse of it after all.
In the background lays a labyrinth made of stones.. you’ll see more of it
in a moment…
Lea and me.
It’s very special, how our connection goes deep while I only just ‘know’ Lea.
I looked it up, and (besides visiting her blog to read her haiku on Friday)
the first time I contacted Lea to ask if she was willing to write an article
about labyrinths for the debut issue of FEATURING magazine, was on
January 10. That’s only 4 Months ago!
Still… we both feel like we’ve known each other for years…
Here’s the beautiful labyrinth that was laid out in the museum.
I didn’t walk the labyrinth myself…
when it was ‘time to walk the labyrinths’ there were too many people
to my taste…
I didn’t feel like joining the ‘crowd’ and bumping on to all those people
on such a narrow path… I felt that would spoil the experience because
it would only annoy me. I hope one day to walk a labyrinth (I know of one
in Nijmegen, the city my son lives) and I rather go there someday, walk that
labyrinth on my own and think of Kim and Lea.
There was yet another labyrinth laid out in another room.
People stood in line to walk the other labyrinth too.
They were let into the room one by one so it wouldn’t be overcrowded.
It was really beautiful, made of glass pebbles…
…but Lea and I had too much fun talking French instead of walking.
(‘aujourd’hui je suis trois-vingt ans’ 🙂 )
Yep, we were silly like that!
The photos and stories went into my weekly art journal too.
I didn’t had the opportunity to show the page yet…
The Chronicles of Marit 2012 – Week 18
(Click on the picture to enlarge for a better view)
(Size: 24,5 x 49 cm – 9.65 x 14.86 inch) The strange face of the man popped up from the stains - he just begged me to rescue him and I freed him from the background. He doesn't look very nice, but I bet he is just crumpy and he's actually a good man at heart.
And that’s all for today.
Oh, but maybe not… if you aren’t tired of my ramblings yet:
hop on over to Julie Baltzers blog – I have a guest post there.
I just can’t stop talking today.. *teehee*
Enjoy your weekend dear ones.
Take a walk
in the woods
on the beach
in the labyrinth
or on the wild side…
Go!

Your painting looks like it fell from the cave walls in Lascaux – very cool.
And your haiku is wonderful, too. All the other pictures and accompanying text are delightful – you sound like such an up-beat, fun person.

I just love it when we get to meet the people we hang out with on the Internet. As a walker of labyrinths I was deeply impressed with the installations at the museum, too, and your little wish jar is such a special gift.

I will start off with a proper (and heartfelt) comment: the artwork for your haiku is AMAZING. I love those colours and the legless horse looks like a cave painting! Such beautiful texture…
And now I can’t help myself: if I saw a room with a slippery floor and all those pretty stones laid out like that, I would want to take a running start and then launch myself across the floor on my stomach and send them all flying. Hee!

Thanks for sharing your visit to the exhibit – labyrinths (and mazes) have always fascinated and inspired me. The little vase is precious! Sorry I haven’t commented in a while but I have been very busy this past winter – now that the long hot days of summer are here, I will have more time for blog reading and for creative endeavors – I am feeling the need for some mixed media playing, and your blog always inspires me!

Dear Marit, Oh what wonderful memories we have from our day together, and I loved seeing the day through your eyes!I am absolutely certain that this was only the first of many meetings as our paths weave their way forward into our futures…

Dearest Marit, Kimberly and I are sitting here together, side by side, immersed in your beautiful post of such a special day spent together, new but the oldest of friends! You captured the magic of the day so well in your photos and writing. That little wishing vase is made from a gourd, sanded, stained, and then polished. Tomorrow is my last day in England and I will begin winding my way home, with the meeting of you and your beloved iin my heart forever… Thank you for making our day in Rotterdam so extra special. With much love, Lea p.s. I am so glad to know that I will be 24 on my next birth day… teehee XO
