Dat herken ik wel hoor, dat je je ongemakkelijk voelt om te gaan zitten tekenen… met vriend(in) erbij is relaxter of op een rustig plekje waar bijna niemand komt… ik ben ook nog in de ‘oefen-fase’.

Zo leuk, dat urban sketching! Ik doe het sinds een paar maanden ook af en toe, maar mijn tekeningetjes zijn lang niet zo mooi als de jouwe! Ik blijf het wel een beetje intimiderend vinden om zo “en plein public” te zitten tekenen…

I love this idea of *Urban Sketching* Marit, meet ups and going out as a group to encourage and socialise but still allowing freedom to be alone in your work. As a nature lover, the feeling of being outdoors exploring with pens and paint sketching what I see before me is a delightful thought. It reminds me of when I was young and at college where my Teacher would always push us out of the art door saying “Come back when you have found light and shade!” I can still remember how cold my hands were drawing roof tops during winter time.
A very informative and encouraging post Marit giving everyone the reasons why they should give this ago. I’m a firm believer that if we first do like like/enjoy something we must give it a second chance… In life it may turn out to be the best thing every!!
You are an AMAZING Artist Marit and one hell of an encourager… #thankyou

I set off for my gym as the kids swim down there only to find it was when i had a class. so i shall try agian.

You made me want to give it a try. It is 95F here in txas nad humid. Not comfortable weather to sit out. I might just pluck up courage to go early to the gym and try for a fe w minutes.

Loved this QDSpost, Marit! I feel like you really “put yourself out there” making others feel much more relaxed about urban sketching by talking about your own nervousness and insecurities about sketching with various strangers looking over your shoulder and commenting on your work. This is something I think just about all artists would find difficult as we are so used to working in the privacy of the studio! You give wonderful suggestions for anyone—even non-artists—to give urban sketching a “try”, and choosing to go sketching with another person also makes the entire experience seem less daunting. Here in the Seattle area there is an urban sketcher whose work is published frequently in the Seattle Times, our local newspaper. His name is Gabriel Campanario, and his work is often used in the newspaper, especially on weekends, in place of a photograph, to show various city scenes and events taking place locally.
