It was late.
Way past midnight.
My beloved and I were still downstairs.
We sat on the couch and talked.
We know each other for 15 years and
we still can talk all night.
About anything and
nothing.
The door to the garden was open.
A sultry Summer night.
Suddenly, we heard a strange sound…
Haiku my Heart
Een roep in de nacht.
Een kerk uil in Eindhoven of het buurmeisje? |
Strange sounds in the night.
A screech-owl in Eindhoven or the girl next door? |
I am still not sure what we heard, but it was definitely not the next door’s
baby crying… I know that sound all to well. I like to think it was an owl indeed.
‘Haiku my Heart Friday’ is hosted by the wonderful Rebecca.
Visit her blog to find a list of the other participants: Recuerda Mi Corazon
To all my haiku friends: the forecast predicts tropical temperatures
this weekend so I probably won’t be able to visit you all.
I’ll shut down the computer and stay down stairs where it is cooler.
I hope to catch up with you next week (if it cools down.)
Tic Toc
In March I made a collage in my big art journal (25 x 35 cm – 9.8 x 13.8 inch)
I did not like it at all, and over the last months I re-worked the image
in several ways. I thought it might be fun to see the process and how
the piece evolved so I made photos along the way…
I finally call the page finished now.
It still isn’t a very good art piece, but I like it a lot more
than the original collage.
(Click on the image to enlarge)
- The original collage. Dull. Common. Stodgy.
- Gesso and paint over it. Layers. Inky lines.
Better, but the faces and lines are childish and too explicit. - The wiped out ink lines leave a mess.
Blaahh, the piece looks dirty now.
It looks a bit like shadows though. - I resort to an old, proved and loved method: write!
I write text that serve as shadows.
It still isn’t the best piece I’ve ever made but its OK.
I call it finished.
The Chronicles of Marit 2012 – Week 32
I am searching for new ways to work in my Chronicles.
I want to move away from the ‘calendar-like’ spreads I used to make.
More in general: I’m exploring new paths in my art.
It is an exiting and sometimes troubling path with blocks
and holes in the road, but I’m moving forward.
Slowly and steadily.
Here’s one last announcement before I go…
These online Workshops start in September (In English and Dutch)
Let it Loose (27.50 Euro)
September 17 – October 25; 2012
This workshop will loosen you up and take you a step further in creating your own, unique art journal pages. You’ll learn some basic writing techniques to improve your journaling and you will get tips and techniques to use your own handwriting (You dislike your own handwriting? You might be surprised what you can do with it!) Furthermore, you will learn art techniques like working with collages, paint, colours, gesso and gel medium.
“I had such a wonderful time with this workshop. I learned so much. Marit is a wonderful teacher, and if she is offering this workshop again, I highly recommend it!!” ~ Danielle
“Let it Loose is a super cool art journal class. I wish I’d had teachers like Marit in school! If you have the chance to take a class with her, do it! You won’t regret it.” ~ Anne
I highly recommend it – whether you have never tried art journaling, or you’ve been doing it for awhile. The lessons are fun and easy to follow, open enough for interpreting in your own style, and the atmosphere is super supportive!” ~ Michelle
..

Hello Marit, I hope this finds you and your beloved free from the unusual heat. One of my favorite things in the night is to hear a barn owl, I know the sound well, the clicking and the screech, so I too hope what you heard was an owl! I love that you shaded the collage with writing! That is brilliant my dear friend! You are always a ray of sunshine for me, especially on the this overcast Friday haiku day, I’m sending you some cool breezes along with my love… XO

Although I enjoy your calendar pages, I understand wanting to try something new. My favorite magazine image to write on is a wall. Lots of fashion photography is shot with a wall backdrop. These are the images I use.
