Goodmorning lovelies! It was fun to visit you – the round of desks – last week and since I have this day off of work again I join in once more to show what I’m up to and what my desk looks like this morning.

Last week a friend of mine came over and now that I refurbished my atelier there’s room for two to sit at my table. We spend the whole day together creating up a storm and it was so much fun! She decorated her phone case (it’s a pity I didn’t take a photo…) and I created the tiny journal that lays on my desk. I worked on the pages some more over the weekend and here’s the finished little thing.

It was a productive weekend ’cause I also created a spread in my Chronicles art journal

Goodmorning Julia, goodmorning all deskers! Wednesday morning and no, I am not at work. I took this week off and am enjoying some me-time in my little atelier! After a busy October -month I now have time to relax and do all sorts of things that makes me happy, like picking up my mum on monday to go on our annual ‘Christmas trip’ to a local garden centre. My mum cannot walk for a long period but there are wheelchairs there, so she installed herself and I pushed her – and we sauntered through that store like two giggling teenagers… laughing at the singing deers and Santa Clauses shouting ‘hohoho’, being amazed by the many ‘ornaments’ of which we sometimes didn’t know what it was supposed to represent (‘weard, fluffy thingies’ that, after turning it over and over and looking at it from all angles, we came to the conclusion that it must represent an owl.) We had a great time, had coffee with cake half the way, and once we reached the finish (the cash registers) we both had only a few small things to pay for… (I bought two bags of tea lights on sale and a thin silver wire with very small LED lights.)

Having free time, I finally tried a gelli-plate technique I saw on you tube a few weeks ago: using oil pastels as a resistent. My desk shows the fun I had…

… and the floor got covered with gelli prints, laying there to dry.

On the next spread I used one of those “oil pastel resist gelli prints” with a drawing that I created to picture the huge storm Ciarán. That windmill and waves may have you puzzling, but the image is inspired by a real live scene…

… here’s the photo – made by Marcel Witte – that I found on the internet. The mill stands in Vlissingen, a nearby town, and I used this photo as a reference for the drawing.

No storm today though, it’s a quiet morning and I may even see some sunshine this afternoon, but tonight I presume heavy winds will blow through our country ’cause it’s election day… big changes may come our way, we’ll see…

Celebrate WOYWW#700

OHMY…. Julia’s What’s On Your Work desk Wednesday reached #700. WHAAAT? Yes, the blog event that our lovely hostess started as a nice “I share a photo of my desk on my blog, what’s on your desk?” kinda spontanious action back in June 2009. The idea spoke to a lot of people and the event turned out into this long-lasting desk sharing every Wednesday. People connected through blogposts: learned to know each other because of this weekly sharing of desk (and live) stories and became friends. There are even real life crops every year (in the UK, ’cause that’s where it all started and where most ‘deskers’ are based. I never had the chance to visit a crop.)

I joined and posted my first ‘woyww-desk photo’ in week 193 (February 2013) and kept on posting a desk photo almost every week until September 2019. That’s when I got a job and had less time, but I still squeeze in a (scheduled) Wednesday post every now and then. I noticed #700 was coming up and how could I not be present on that date and celebrate that milestone with the other deskers… so here I am to CONGRATULATE JULIA and send a big hug to all of my desk-friends that I never met but feel I know so well…

I looked up my first woyww-post and here’s the desk photo I posted back then…

It seems like a lifetime ago – another house, another city, but some things stay the same. Look!

WOYWW #700

I still use that yellow cutlery tray to store pens and pencils, the cup that contains water and brushes is the same one and I still have that rotating tool-holder on my desk! I do own the same sewing machine too, but I don’t use it often. I should though; I like sewing on paper but I mostly work in bound journals these days and sewing on pages in a book isn’t easy.

It’s Tuesday evening when I write this. This blogpost has been on ‘draft’ for weeks and I kept on adding pictures, but still every week again I did not find the time to post… until now. It looks like I will have time later this week to visit Julia and the other deskers from the WOYWW gang (and the latter is, to my opinion, a condition to categorize my post under “woyww”.)

Due to my job; the worries I had according my mum (she was very ill and in hospital/IC for a while, she’s doing better now) and all sorts of other obligations I held on to this blogpost until now. I still don’t have much time to write a lot but at least it contains my latest art journal spreads to look at and I even took a photo of my workdesk last Sunday – my desk doesn’t look very different now I must say, although I closed the watercolour box and untaped (is that a word?) the small paintings from my desk.

OK, the above may sound a bit chaotic, I may even BE a little chaotic lately but at least I AM HERE and I look forward to visit your blogs and tour along your desks. Here’s mine (and my latest art journal spreads) ENJOY!

Hi there sweet ones… pfew, I made it to my blog! You know those days that you keep on running behind – as if hours fly like minutes and you have the feeling there’s something wrong because ‘how can it be afternoon already?” I have one of those days, in fact, all week went by like that! Did I even visit back the deskers that payed me a visit last week?

To save some time – in trying to get my mind to fit with the clock – I won’t type much today and just show you some photos, ok?

The Chronicles of Marit 2020 – Week 23

I thought I’d use my white marker to fill in the lettering but that didn’t work well (the ink was not opaque enough) so I took a fine brush and paint to fill those words (twice!) Now that I write this down: that must be the reason I have the feeling I keep running behind; it took me ages to fill those lettering!

Art journaling & woyww #570

Hi there lovelies – another week flew by and it’s again Wednesday. Another day of ‘intelligent lockdown’ overhere in the Netherlands, which means we are allowed to go outside for a walk or shopping (with restricions, of course.) I saw on tv that a lot of people are fed up with this crisis and go outside, the streets and parks showed what I would call ‘a crowd’ nowadays. I, myself, still stay inside or on the balcony. My beloved does the grocery shopping early in the mornings, when there’s less people on the streets. We’d rather be safe than sorry.

Due to this stay-at-home policy, my art desk shows a lot of activity during the week. That’s also the case today, but I cannot show you what I am working on because it is something I create for the Dutch Dares challenge in June as a guest designer. I CAN show you the materials that I am working with though…

DUTCH DARES

The Dutch Dares May challenge was announced on Facebook today, the theme is “Puberty” and here’s my go

I found three old photo’s of my teenage room at the bottom of my photo-box… one of the photo’s was even cut-out (shame on me!) but I still used it – these are the only photos I got that show how my room looked like back in the days. It may not be a spectacular lay out but I’m happy to have one with photos of my teenage room in my album now.

The Chronicles of Marit 2020 – Week 17

In week 17, my parents, my beloved & I met for ‘coffee at a distance’ in a nearby park. They brought their own cups, I brougt coffee in a thermos bottle and as you can see on the photo, we kept our distance.
