Week 15

A quick, fairly simple spread with a ‘fat crayon gelli print’ background, a large illustration from a magazine, washi tape along the bottom with some text about the week and a pocket for the postcards. (There’s text underneath the cards that I rather keep private…) Unfortunately I saw only later that I got the week number wrong – I don’t make this kind of mistake often but it happens – I thought of covering it with gesso but I’m afraid it will look worse so I just put 15 over it.

Week 16

A busy week in which a lot happened, so I added an extra flap to this spread. The background is a gelliprint, the ’tiles’ on the left I created in a Zentangle workshop that week.

Week 17

So this spread had been waiting for text for over a week. There were the illustrations and the big lettering with a big gap in the middle… I just finished it up by jotting my thoughts down because otherwise it would have taken even longer before it was finished…

Week 18

A background of white/gray/brown acrylic paint. The faces of the large photo were painted over. A left over piece of washi tape (that t – 2 or 3 years ago? – from one of my workshop-participants) top right and bottom left. The ‘week and month’ text drawn with a template. The text between the lines is stamped and handwritten.

Week 19

I was browsing through my website gallery and looking at my very first “Chronicles Years” – everything was still new to me back then and the joy of discovery and ‘play’ radiates from those first pages. I tried to recreate that on these pages: just playing and messing around and while it may not be a very balanced and less ‘well thought out’ spread, I had a lot of fun! I started with spray ink, gesso and white acrylic paint and glued all kinds of random pictures as a border. I traced a picture of Joost Klein (who was supposed to represent the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest but was disqualified from the finale) in broad strokes using carbon paper to make it a ‘simple character’. I filled the space between the text and images with small circles/doodles.
