Quite a few demons came back to haunt me over the past weeks. On days (and nights…) like that the hours go by slowly and I feel like being deep under water, with a big helmet on my head, moving heavy and awkward.

Laborious wading

These times are there to let me know that I am not yet completely recovered from my burn-out and that there are still some battles to fight and fears to conquer. It does leave one with a nice art journal spread though, don’t you think?

Here’s another ‘heavy’ art journal spread, this one’s in my Chronicles journal.
I pictured my feelings by cutting out Gustav Klimt’s three gorgons (- Sickness, Madness, Death – ) and gluing them on the page. I really like the way the fourth ‘creature’ turns up from behind them, so I cut her out too. Oh, and don’t worry! “maddness,” “death” – it may all sound pretty awfull but I really was not that desperate… I just DO like the images a lot!)

The Chronicles – Week 43

The three gorgons are part of a big art piece by Gustav Klimt: “The Beethoven Frieze.”
I would love to go to see that painting in real life!

On with my journaling page… here’s a detail photo of how the journaling around the Gorgons looks. The white-on-white is a nice technique to use if you want the journaling to be still visible but with not too much emphasis on the text.

Well, you can take a deep breath now and relax, ’cause it seems I fought the demons off for now.
So let’s enjoy the light and take a look at what I am up to today, shall we?!

Eeeeckkk… see that?

Yep, those are canvasses!
Sort of big ones even (40×50 and 50×70 cm.) Well, maybe that’s not all that big to you, but to me it is as I always work in small(er) books and on paper. I have this strange kind of ‘block’ when it comes to working on canvas and I decided that it is time to force myself through that. I plan to take one of my smaller ‘paper works’ that I like and use that as a guide to create a bigger art piece on canvas. Let’s see how that goes… I’ll keep you informed.

It is a drizzling and grey day overhere in The Netherlands… not much for going outside so I might spend some extra hours in my studio this afternoon. Hope you have a nice day – go give it your own color!
