Mother & son art collaboration project: fifty pieces (6-10)

The collaboration project with my son continues. We are working on a ’50 pieces with one object’ theme until the end of the year and we both finished some pieces.

I got out my gelli plate this time and made several mono prints. I first cut out the shapes and made templates that way. It was quite a puzzle to get the right order of printing, with the one shape behind the other, and I made several mistakes but it sure was fun and I learned a lot. The prints may not be perfect but I like them anyway.

I cutted one gelli print, that I found rather boring, into pieces and pasted the pieces on a black background.

Nout picked his bike to use as an object to work with (photo)

My son Nout and his beloved Guus came to stay with us last weekend and having seen my prints of the still life, they both wanted to try gelli printing. Guus (left) created some marvelous prints using all kinds of colors and templates.

Nout choose to make some prints for the project so he choose a bike to picture. The following print he created by using an oil crayon drawing on the gelli plate

Getting the hang of it, he tried to ‘draw’ a bike with a thread…

… and did it come out nice!!!

And here’s the second (‘ghost’) print.

Having all the paint tubes on the table, Nout saw the hardened paint around the openings and since some of those pieces are round, he saw wheels in it… so he pulled the hardened paint from the tubes and created a 3D mini bike which he glued onto aquarel paper. Ain’t that a sweet little bike?

We all had a wonderful time and we all have new inspiraton to investigate more possibilities, take things further and create more pieces. Goodmorning Julia, goodmorning all deskers! Wednesday morning and no, I am not at work. I took this week off and am enjoying some me-time in my little atelier! After a busy October -month I now have time to relax and do all sorts of things that makes me happy, like picking up my mum on monday to go on our annual ‘Christmas trip’ to a local garden centre. My mum cannot walk for a long period but there are wheelchairs there, so she installed herself and I pushed her – and we sauntered through that store like two giggling teenagers… laughing at the singing deers and Santa Clauses shouting ‘hohoho’, being amazed by the many ‘ornaments’ of which we sometimes didn’t know what it was supposed to represent (‘weard, fluffy thingies’ that, after turning it over and over and looking at it from all angles, we came to the conclusion that it must represent an owl.) We had a great time, had coffee with cake half the way, and once we reached the finish (the cash registers) we both had only a few small things to pay for… (I bought two bags of tea lights on sale and a thin silver wire with very small LED lights.)

Having free time, I finally tried a gelli-plate technique I saw on you tube a few weeks ago: using oil pastels as a resistent. My desk shows the fun I had…

… and the floor got covered with gelli prints, laying there to dry.

On the next spread I used one of those “oil pastel resist gelli prints” with a drawing that I created to picture the huge storm Ciarán. That windmill and waves may have you puzzling, but the image is inspired by a real live scene…

… here’s the photo – made by Marcel Witte – that I found on the internet. The mill stands in Vlissingen, a nearby town, and I used this photo as a reference for the drawing.

No storm today though, it’s a quiet morning and I may even see some sunshine this afternoon, but tonight I presume heavy winds will blow through our country ’cause it’s election day… big changes may come our way, we’ll see…

Good morning sweeties, glad to see you again. It’s been two weeks… yes, I skipped last week’s Wednesday blogpost because I got all occupied with my art. I went into some sort of creative flow and didn’t want to disturb that, so I kept on going. As a result, I have a lot to show you. I won’t publish it all at once though but still, it’s a lot so I won’t talk much today – instead, there’s some extra photos. Enjoy!

A few years ago (September 2017) I started working on a new series of ‘small collage-mixed-media’ pieces. It was a sequel to my earlier series Letters from the Wasteland. I created two pieces back then, but the project got ‘lost and forgotten’ at the bottom of a drawer after that… until I found it last week and picked it up again.
