Index Cards 13 – 19

Days fly by so quickly, it’s already Friday and time to show you my latest index cards. Yep, ICAD 2015 is still going strong and I still play along.. although I must say this weeks’ prompts had me a little puzzled. I had to force myself and give myself a push to still work with the challenges. I found some of the them real difficult but I managed to work through that and I made an index card with each prompt. They may not all be that good, but I pet myself on the shoulder for keeping up with the challenge and prompts!

On to this week then – week 3 – and the theme is ‘collage.’ Usually collage is not a problem for me, but this week I did not really could get a grip on it… Looking back on what I created I find most of the cards a bit cliché. Oh well, my work cannot be awesome all the time now can it? Even I suffer from a lack of inspiration every now and then. So cliché or not… here they are

“Greetings from Zeeland” – cut out magazine photo of a lady in traditional clothing from this region, border with washi tape, stamped and cut out lettering.

I had a lot of problems with this one… what the hack is ‘wabi sabi’… I spend some time searching on the computer and at the end I decided to cut some sort of circle from a magazine page and just glue it to the card.. and I actually like it a lot!

I combined a cut out tree-trunk and an image of a bird house. Stamped and colored the girl (‘Alice’)and gave her a cut out bird in her hands. The clouds are stamps and I finished it off with a bit of doodling.

ICAD #19 – Snow Globe

The inside of the ‘globe’ is a collage of magazine clippings (mountains, woman swimming.) I added the snow dots with a white Posca pen. The globe is accentuated with water paint (Caran d’Ache neocolor water-soluble pencils and a wet brush.)

On to the weekend then. I have a lot of creative plans but should do a little housekeeping too, so let’s see what the days bring… but in all cases: Keep on Rockin’ in the Free World!

ICAD 2015: Index Cards 6-12

Today is Friday: a tropical day in the Netherlands and the weekend ahead. I’m looking forward to that because that means that the workmen outside our balcony will not be there… they make noise ever since we moved in (first the renovation of the buildings on the other side of the street and now the street itself.) After 13 Months of noise from all the machines I’m so sick and tired of it! Especially when the weather is so nice… I cannot sit nor hang the laundry outside because of the dust that whirls in the air. I keep on hoping that they will be finished ‘in a week or so’ but I have been saying that for weeks now… MAN do they work slow!

OK, enough complaining… my atelier is on the other side of the apartment and my index cards are on the table, so let’s move on to the fun stuff that shall we?!

For week two, Tammy came up with prompts about ‘Fruits and Vegetables’… I didn’t know what to do with this theme until I decided to make a ‘basic series’ of 7 monotypes on index cards using the ‘veggie-colors’. I take one of those ‘basics’ out every day, add a fun text and doodle on it… here’s the first 5 cards of Week 2.

ICAD 2015: Index Cards 1-5

I looked up my stack of Index Cards and decided to play along with ICAD (“Index Card A Day”) – this annual event is facilitated by Daisy Yellow and although I might not create 61 cards in total, I like to have the stack of index cards on my table for a quick ‘in between’ scribble when I am not working on art journal pages or feel stuck. Creating these cards clear my head while I still stay creative – an excellent way to keep the mojo flowing!

Now I do of course have my Box of Longing – filled with index cards ‘my way’ – that I could consummate with some more cards but I decided to stick to the ICAD prompts and leave the Box of Longing alone….

Daisy Yellow provides a week theme with 7 prompts (one for each day) and started last Monday. I will show you my index cards on Fridays which means there will be 2 created with the before week-theme and 5 with the new theme (that is, if I manage to create a card every day.) Today there’s only 5 to show (because, like I said, it started on Monday.) Here we go…

Today is going to be a hot day in the Netherlands… the weather forecast predicts over 30 degrees Celsius! At the moment it looks a bit cloudy but the temperatures are already rising so I don’t think I will be in my atelier much today. There’s a lot I want to get done though but I can work on that in the weekend when the temperatures drop. I’m gonna enjoy this day in the sun!
