Yesterday was a sunny day, just perfect for art-loving public to walk through the old streets of Middelburg and visit all the different galleries that opened their doors at the “Art- and Cultural Route.” There’s one little gallery that belongs to Sandra van der Meulen and she had asked me to be her guest-artist on this first day of May. Sandra makes beautiful art and we certainly have a connection and see similarities in our art, although it is completely different at the same time. I took some photos so you can see for yourself. You can find more of Sandra’s work at her website.

It was really a beautiful day and it looks like this photo was taken in the streets of some Mediterranean town… it is, however, taken in one of those sweet backstreets of Middelburg! Sandra in front of her atelier/gallery.

Of course I wanted to thank Sandra for the opportunity she gave me to exhibit my journals, so I made a little journal [with her art and ‘being’ in mind] that I gave her as a present.

Many people took advantage of the nice weather to visit the exhibition and I saw and spoke a lot of enthusiastic and inspiring visitors.

I look back on this day with gratitude and a smile on my face.
And now it’s Monday… time to finish my ‘quick drawings’ that I started in April (four prompts/drawings to go and then I have finished the 30-days-drawings ‘challenge.’) Next on the prompt list is “Skeleton Key”… I thank you for your visit and wish you a wonderful, sunny week.

Exhibition – May 1

Every first Sunday of the month, the participants of the Art & Culture route Middelburg open their doors to the public. Museums, galleries & ateliers: you are welcome to look around and meet the creators of all the art.

Sunday, May 1, is also MIDDELBURG books-city. This event has grown from a small book market into one of the largest book events in the South-West of the Netherlands. Several participants of the Art-route present and exhibit art- and artists’ books.

On Sunday May 1, I will be a guest-exhibitor at Atelier Sandra van der Meulen

Sandra van der Meulen (#20) creates paintings in mixed media with rice paper, ink, acrylic and thread. You can see work on paper, cloth and metal.

I will exhibit handmade books, art journals and mixed media work on paper.

All galleries are open from 13.00-17.00 hours (look here for the complete list of participants.)

woyww #274 – Preparing for the Art Route

On this sunny day in Zeeland, I am inside my atelier preparing for Koudekerke Uit de Kunst. This week, Koudekerke (a village nearby) is bursting from cultural activities. The activities find their climax with a so called ‘Art Route’ which takes place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. I will be part of the Art Route on Saturday, September 6, to show my work. Right now, I’m working hard to get everything ready for that. I bound a lot of new books over the past few weeks and these last days are filled with preparing (like putting prizes to my handbound books,) tying up all the loose ends (like: finding that black cloth to lay over the table to show my work on… the cloth must be somewhere in a box after the move… but there’s still a lot of boxes unpacked and I don’t know in which one the cloth is – probably the last one I open?! Grrr….) and packing up my stuff.

The next information is in Dutch, for all my Dutch friends that live in the neighbourhood and/or plan to visit Zeeland this weekend…

Aanstaande zaterdag, 6 september neem ik deel aan de kunstroute in Koudekerke. De kunstroute is onderdeel van de jaarlijks terugkerende culturele week Koudekerke uit de Kunst. Op de kunstroute exposeren ongeveer 40 amateur- en professionele kunstenaars hun werk in eigen huis, atelier of op locatie. Je kunt mij vinden in de tuin van zorgkwekerij Groenis’t (in de folder van de kunstroute aangeduid als locatie #18) waar ik van 10.00 tot 17.00 uur een kraampje/tafel deel met keramiste (en lieve nicht/vriendin) Mirjam van Sluijs. We presenteren beiden ons werk en ik zal tevens demonstraties boekbinden geven.

Deze locatie ligt buiten het eigenlijke dorp Koudekerke maar is zeker een bezoekje waard: diverse kunstenaars presenteren zich op deze locatie zowel binnen als in de prachtige tuin. De weerberichten zijn ook nog eens heel gunstig: het zou wel eens een zomerse dag kunnen worden en wat is er dan mooier dan kunst kijken in de buitenlucht?! Ook voor kinderen zijn er creatieve activiteiten georganiseerd… ik heb de originele tipi al mogen bekijken die vorige week voor dat doel in de tuin werd opgezet van zorgkwekerij Groenis’t – mijn tafel komt er tegenover en wie weet, doe ik wel een veer in mijn haar om in stijl te blijven!

Ik zou het heel leuk vinden als je me op komt zoeken a.s. zaterdag – onderstaand kaartje moet het je gemakkelijk maken om me te vinden.
