<h4><strong>Guest blogger: Willy Duit<br />
</strong></h4>
<p><strong><em><span style="color: #993300;">Willy wrote a tutorial about the making of an envelope booklet. If you don&#8217;t feel creating yet another journal, than you can use the techniques she describes for creating the cover to create &#8211; for example &#8211; an art journal page.</span><br />
</em></strong></p>
<p>I need to dig deep in my memory to get to the surface where and how Willy and I met&#8230; I think I found her online when we both were scrapbookers, that must have been in 2009. I even think I met her in real life, on a scrapbook fair once (in Utrecht?) but I&#8217;m not sure about that either. What I AM sure of is, that I have been following her blog and creative development for years now. Willy creates in a totally different style than me and that&#8217;s why I love her so much: she challenges and inspires me! I bet she can do the same for you with this Quirky blogpost.</p>

<h2><strong>QDS #6. Tea dye envelope book<br />
</strong></h2>
<p>As a child of deaf parents, I have been taught from an early age on to express myself &#8216;differently.&#8217; When I, years later, was introduced to the wonderful world of mixed media and art journaling, my heart made a little jump: it felt like coming home right away! I playfully make contact with my inner self in a natural way and go from there to create and share my &#8216;being&#8217;. In this blogpost I take you with me on this road and share my imagination with you, welcome!<br />
<a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26211" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="609" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1-300x228.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1-768x585.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a><br />
I show you how you can make an easy and fun, personal (Summer) booklet for keepsakes, using simple envelopes.<br />
<a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26212" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="601" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2-768x577.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Get 12 simple, white envelopes and give them a beautiful old weathered look by soaking them in tea one by one.  Take the envelopes out of the &#8216;tea bath&#8217; gently and let them air dry. &#8220;Rooibos&#8221; tea gives the best results.</p>
<p>When the envelopes are completely dry, glue them together like this:  six envelops with the open side to the outside (fold the flap first and stick the &#8216;nice sides&#8217; together.) These will be the pages on the inside of your book in which you can put &#8216;stuff&#8217; (tickets, notes et cetera.)</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26350" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>You have four envelopes left. Glue those per two together with the nice side on the outside, these will be the cover of your booklet that we will decorate.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26352" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26213" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Next collect all kinds of material like: tea bags, dried flowers, stamps, pieces of text-pages, magazine clippings, napkins, labels et cetera.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26214" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Take the top layer (that has the color/image on) off the napkin and glue it on the envelope cover using a thin layer of gel medium or mod podge. (Put the medium on the envelope and not on the napkin, it will tore&#8230;) Now &#8216;build&#8217; layer after layer using the materials and clippings you like.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26215" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Add a little gesso here and there using your fingers. When everything is dry, stamp with (permanent) ink over the collage to create a well balanced total image.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26216" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p>Now stamp on the thin, white layer of the napkin (which you took off earlier, remember?) using waterproof ink. I used the image of a woman for my example, but you can of course use any stamp you like. If you don&#8217;t like (or have) stamps, you can use an image from a magazine or a photo.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26217" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Glue the image on the cover (remember: put the glue/medium on the cover and NOT on the thin paper layer.) Now sponge a little bit of color on your cover. I used distress ink (<em>Rusty Hinge</em> and <em>Vintage Photo</em>.) You can also color the stamped image if you like.  Finish the cover with paint splatters and a wonky pencil line to make a border.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26218" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg" alt="" width="630" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg 630w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7-236x300.jpg 236w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26219" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg" alt="" width="528" height="1115" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg 528w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8-485x1024.jpg 485w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px" /></a><br />
Punch holes in the cover using a puncher (measure and mark the place of the holes first.) Copy the place of the holes on all the pages and the back cover. Find a fitting branch outside your house to use for the binding. I put a bit of white gesso on mine for extra interest.</p>
<p>Bind your booklet like this:</p>
<p>Step 1: Stick the needle through the hole from the back to the front side, put the thread over the branch and stick the needle/thread back in the same hole, going from front to back again.</p>
<p>Step 2: On the back side, go to the second hole.</p>
<p>Repeat step 1.</p>
<p>When you got to the last hole, fasten off the thread.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-9.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26220" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-9.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-9.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-9-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-9-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-10.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26221" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-10.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-10.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-10-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-11.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26222" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-11.jpg" alt="" width="636" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-11.jpg 636w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-11-239x300.jpg 239w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 636px) 100vw, 636px" /></a></p>
<p>Decorate the envelopes (pages) on the inside. I used stamps, a small (red) line and a found text: &#8220;Memory is the best of all gardens. Therein, Winter and Wummer, the seeds of there past lie dormant, ready to spring into instant bloom at any moment the mind wishes to bring them alive.&#8221;</p>
<p>Have a nice Summer!</p>
<p>Love,<br />
Willy</p>

<a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26211" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="609" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1-300x228.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-1-768x585.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a><br />
<a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26212" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="601" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-2-768x577.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26350" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-bladzijden-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26352" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/envelop-kaft-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26213" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-3-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p>Verzamel collage materiaal, zoals: lege theezakjes, gedroogde bloemen, postzegels, stukjes tekst, tijdschrift, servetten, labels etc.</p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26214" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4A-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26215" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-4B-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26216" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg" alt="" width="600" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5.jpg 600w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-5-225x300.jpg 225w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26217" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6.jpg 800w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6-300x225.jpg 300w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-6-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26218" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg" alt="" width="630" height="800" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7.jpg 630w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-7-236x300.jpg 236w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px" /></a></p>
<p><a href="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" class="alignnone size-full wp-image-26219" src="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg" alt="" width="528" height="1115" srcset="https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8.jpg 528w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8-142x300.jpg 142w, https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/QDS-Willy-8-485x1024.jpg 485w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px" /></a><br />
