Delaware does not seem an inspiring state either.
You were awefully quiet – but later in the week, Donna Ruth send me an email…
Donna wrote: “That phrase “what did Delaware” has been floating about in my brain for decades. I assumed it was part of a song I recited while jumping rope as a kid. Now I discover that it was a tiny part of a Perry Como song which I must have heard on the radio and the repetition ingrained those three words (only three ? sheesh, what a short attention span) in my memory. So that inspired me to recreate another childhood memory: paperdolls. Finally, the answer to what did Delaware! Love this road trip!” ~ Donna Ruth ~
and here’s the layout Donna made
In the journaling on the layout Donna links the clothes to events in Delaware – such fun!
Thank you for the submission Donna!
Pat is also following the BIG Road Trip series. On her blog Altering Thoughts she writes her own, personal thoughts about the State we’re in and she adds information and extra’s – I recommend you hop on over and read Pat’s blogpost about Delaware. Love it Pat!
And then there’s me.
Yep, I created something myself – inspired by the BIG Road Trip post. I was not inspired by the state itself but I fell in love with jellyfish! Remember those wonderful photos in the former Road Trip post? Also, the name ‘jellyfish’ is so much nicer then the Dutch name “Kwal.” In Dutch that is also a nickname for a person who is unkind and/or annoying – not a nice word, while these creatures are so beautiful! I will call them jellyfish (gelatinevissen? gelvissen?) in Dutch too from now on! The colors, the shapes… they totally inspired me!
So this week there is an entry by yours truly: a spread in my art journal.
The background is black paint. I drew the jellyfish with watersoluble crayons and the tentacles came about by writing with a white Posca pen… the journaling is about the memories I have of jellyfish – I grew up at the beach and I’ve seen (and experienced, ouch!) lots of them when I was young.
..and that’s it about Delaware. If you have something extra to add, leave me a comment or email me, and I’ll add it to this post.
Next week we will travel to Maryland… I have no idea what to expect there… do you?
Is there an artist living in MARYLAND who would be willing to be my guide and show me around? Are you willing to write a guest-post about ‘your state’ before next Monday (April 8)? Please contact me at bigroadtrip[at]maritspaperworld[dot]com
Residents from other states who want to write a guestpost are of course welcome too. We like to find out the ‘non touristical places’ that are inspiring for creative people/artists to visit. You know, info like where to find that special, tiny shop that carries the best painting brushes, that old bookstore that sells vintage books or that one spot in nature that – when you stand there – shows you a breathtaking view on the surroundings and scenery… that sort of info.
Take a look at the list on The BIG Road Trip page to see which States are still vacant and send me an email if you want to be a host.
I can do with some help traveling through the States!
Thanks – and see you next week in Maryland.

Wat een mooie uitwerking van de jellyfish!
Ik zie ze liever hier in jou journal,
dan in de zee…
