Are you used to the New Year yet?
Are you getting into the daily routine again?
It took me a week to shake of the weird ‘what-day-is-it’ feeling,
but now I’m back to normal and daily routine settled in – and
as you know, my days (routine or not) all got listed in my Chronicles!
The Chronicles of last year filled up two art journals!
(I thought one journal would become much too thick,
so I bound two ‘half year’ books.)
Here’s how they look now.
I love the colours of paint and ink showing through the spine!
Some art journalers put tape on the middle of their pages before they
start to work on it – to avoid leaking. I like to leave it open, on purpose.
To me, the leaking and coloured spine when the book is full is a nice ‘extra’!!
Seeing the two journals together like this, I thought it would be nice to bind
a thick art journal for my ‘2012 Chronicles’ – all 52 weeks in one book!
So I did…
..
I’m still fond of the orange/red/pink combo so I coloured the cover that way.
(Size: 24,5 x 18,5 cm - 9.65 x 7.28 inch)
You can see some Washi tape shimmering through – to make the (rather
big) surface look more exciting. The book is bound with pieces of leather.
At the Workshop by the Sea weekend, Margot bound her book with small
pieces of leather without cutting them into nice, straight strips first and
I liked how that looked! Thank you for the inspiration Margot !!!
I found some old letter stickers in my stash that had the exact right colour
and pattern for the title. (I don’t know the manufacturer anymore. Was it
Sassafrass maybe?)
Here’s a picture from the spine. See how thick it is?
I wonder what news, events, feelings and stuff this book will hold
at the end of the year. Let’s hope it will be overall positive!
Here’s the first spread in the journal

The Chronicles of Marit 2012 – Week 1
(Size: 24,5 x 49 cm - 9.65 x 14.86 inch)
It wasn’t easy to get a good photograph of this page, because of the dark
background with the light/white doodling and images. The background
is kinda Bordeaux colour.
Now, the smart ones among you will notice I skipped a page –
after all, every book starts with a single page isn’t it?
The curious ones among you will notice I have not showed
the promised ‘Core’ page yet.
The genius among you will combine those two facts and conclude
that the missing page has to be the ‘Core’ page.
Yep. You’re right. It is in there.
I won’t show it though, for I have other plans with it.
Maybe some day I will post it on my blog.
Maybe.
To all of you who started ‘project life’ (which, in a way, is the same
as what I am doing for the 3rd year now with ‘the Chronicles’) :
Good Luck!
Keep on filling those pages and you will be addicted in no time!
Have a nice week dear ones!
(An extra note: every blogpost gets followed by my signature.
I want you to know that I am aware of that – still – and that it’s
not ‘just a picture’… It is my virtual hug to you and I mean it!)

I probably wouldn’t tape the pages in a book like this, but I did tape the pages in my Sketchbook Project to keep the pages from bleeding onto another page since it is just got a staple holding the pages together. I think it held the book together better. We will see.
I am starting my year off in my new smash book. We will see what use when that runs out.

WAUW!!!

Geweldig, zo’n lekker dikke journal. En mooie spread ook. En wat ziet het er lekker kleurig uit, die gevulde exemplaren. Daar mag je trots op zijn!

Ooh, I love that the leather binding isn’t straigth and neat. And your first week entry in the journal is so cool Since I have no idea what it says it keeps me guessing. Is it some zodiac thing with the funky looking horse or was it a week that required lots of alchohal hence the bottles… hmm…

Oh that journal looks fantastic. And i agree with you the colored spine looks extra nice, it gives more character to your journal. it would make such a wonderful coffee table book.

I LOVE the new journal! I can’t wait to see all the goodies you fill it up with! The colours on the cover really attract me. I may borrow that colour scheme for a journal page of my own!
