Goodmorning sweeties… did you melt last week? I’m glad temperatures dropped a little here in the Netherlands, I am not build for tropical temperatures. Now that we are back to normal (sort of… 25 Celcius is still warm) I can finally get things done.
A few weeks ago I promised you a ‘grande tour’ through my modest craftroom that I call ‘atelier’ and today is the day… besides ‘What’s on your WorkDESK” you will see what’s on my shelves and in the big closet… and as every Wednesday, I put a link over at Julia’s blog to join WOYWW
I drew a simple little sketch for you so you have an idea of what you are about to see on the photos
First you see the closet that finally got clung to the wall so I could load it up with ‘stuff’. The shelves hold extra ‘things’ that I don’t use much but that need to be in the atelier, like boxes filled with (old) photos and postcards. The closet works as a room divider too… the space behind the closet got transformed into a tiny little ‘guest room’ and I must say it’s quite a cute little ‘bunk’ to sleep in.
Here’s my desk in all its glory… I live in a corner-apartement and the ‘just around the corner’ neighbours have their balcony on this side of the building… that means they sit at an angle and only 3 meters distance: they can look right into my room. We all want our privacy so I put plastic against the window so I don’t have to look at them all day and they can feel more ‘free’ when they sit on their balcony. It works perfect for all of us.
Against the long wall I put up our former book case… the living room is too small to have it there so I turned it into an atelier-case. (b.t.w. I get confused about the English words for this piece of furniture… when do you say ‘case’ and when do you use ‘closet’?)
Right next to the door there was some room left to put this basket with paper rolls…
I’m happy to be able to call this room ‘my atelier’… it’s my little paradise and safe haven
and yes, I create in there.
Mostly art journal pages.
Here’s a spread from my ‘miscellaneous’ journal
Think Your Day was Tough?
Have a great week y’all:
stay in the shade,
drink some ice tea,
keep on rockin’ in the free world!
Hi Marit, loved the tour of your room. I too have mainly IKEA stuff in my craft room. Generally, a closet has a door/doors, and we would in the main call this a bookcase/shelf unit. That piece of plastic- you could stamp on it, then colour with alcohol inks/glass paints/alcohol markers. Would give a lovely stained glass effect for the sun to shine through. :)Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 XxX
I thought about colouring the plastic Shaz, but it would effect the colours I work with in my art journal… so I stay with the natural light on my desk.
Hi Marit, I would use ‘closet’ for a cupboard or unit with doors and ‘case’ or shelving unit for anything with an open front. I love your atelier, thanks so much for sharing. Now I can properly imagine you working in the space. Have a great week. Sarah #19
Not sure what the dictionary would say but I would use closet for something you could walk in and ‘case’ for shelving without doors etc. Gosh isn’t English confusing!
Love your atelier and from now on I will try to call my workroom an atelier – love that word. Thanks!
Great photos, the quality is superb and I love how you have been so clever with the words on them – wish I could use a program to do things like that.
Great page which sums up how I feel so many days – which way to go, left, right, up or down LOL.
Right, off to my atelier now.
Hugs, Neet 4 xx
I’ve enjoyed my visit to your creative space today. I expected to see a sewing machine somewhere but couldn’t see one sadly but is a lovely bright space to craft in.
Hugs,

Great art room Marit. How do you keep your desk so clean?
how lovely and organised. You must have spent ages labeling everything for this blog post! Karen 26
Hi Maarit.. do love your space its very bright and cheery and clever to put plastic across window like that.. I wonder if you’re in Amsterdam?
Love the basket esp with paper. Creative work too!!
No Shaz, I’m not in Amsterdam but in a little town in the South-West of the Netherlands that is even more beautiful: Middelburg. See this blogpost here: https://www.maritspaperworld.com/blog/a-tourist-walk-and-woyww-466/
Love the art journal work. Your craft room is so well organised – love it. Thanks for sharing. Hope you have a good day – Hazel, WOYWW #15 x

What a great tour of your lovely room! Shame it is overlooked like that, but at least you have a big window to let in some light It has definitely been much more comfortable this week, although they do say it is creeping back up again in the next few days… Helen #1
I do love a good floor plan and yours is great, I could see instantly how your room was laid out. It’s so beautifully organised, I love the fact that you can see where everything is! The JapanCrafts website is great isn’t it? I’m sure if you emailed her, she’d post to Holland for you. The charm pack (which is just a term for pre-cut 5 inch squares) was here: http://www.japancrafts.co.uk/store/p86/5%22_Charm_Pack%2C_Indigo_and_Non-Metallic_%28BACK_IN_STOCK%21%21%21%29.html
It’s a lovely selection, I can’t wait to get started but it may have to wait as I’m possibly making a lot of crafts for the Lifeboat Open Day soon. I’ve got a quieter August coming up though so am hoping to make a start on the sashiko then!

Marit your creative space is amazing, so light and airy, ready and waiting for the next project. I would be sleeping in that little bunk guest bed every evening if it was my space.
I love those crochet bed spreads.
Happy crafting lovely & Thank you for sharing, I am very envious.

Hi Marit, layout of the room looks good. You always look so organised and tidy, love it. Have a great woyww and a lovely crafty week, Angela x17x
Hi, Marit! What a terrific crafty space you have! You are so very organized! It’s just lovely with all the natural light you have. And your bunk area for guests looks quite comfy to me! Thanks for sharing your space! Happy WOYWW! Julie {#32}
I loved this little tour around your atelier and that bunk bed is just perfect. Love the splash of colour the blankets bring. The plastic on the windows is a fab idea and one I will squirrel away for later.
Have a lovely week,
Carmen x #35
Happy Belated WOYWW. Ooh, I do love a craft room tour. I must do one eventually. You are so organised – and I am really impressed by the number of art journals on the shelves. I have a few, none of which are full ! The bed does look cosy. I have to sleep in our spare room when I am really ill or if hubby is snoring a lot (thankfully that is not too often!), and that is not a chore as it is very comfortable. Ali x #7
Wow, that is such an organized craft room marit! Fun to see, thanks for the tour 🙂 Happy weekend! xo Cheetarah #30
Hi Marit, I saw your comment on Jan’s blog about sashiko supplies. I’m in Leidschendam and Amsterdam for work in the last week of September. I’m not sure where you are in the Netherlands. If it’s tricky or v expensive to get stuff from Japan crafts, maybe I can help? Email me if you want to discuss further, Lynne
