EDIT March 6 2019 – if you come here via Julia on March 6, I put up the wrong link… HERE is the post you want to see
Goodmorning sweeties… you came to take a peek at my desk? There’s not much to see today… I took a quick photo of this art journal spread I just started – it’s only paint and two images that I *might* (or might not) use…
… instead of taking you with me into the atelier, I thought you might like to come take a walk with me again through my town. It’s been a while since I showed you around (May and June) If you don’t have the time now, that’s no problem. You just go do what you have to do and skip the walk okay?!
Here’s my town Middelburg from above (photo from www.aerophotostock.com) and I marked the route we are going to walk. The little numbers (can you find them? You might wanna enlarge the photo…) refer to the places I’ll take a photo.
Did you finish your coffee? Put your flat shoes on, then here we go…
Let’s take another route than we did last time and start at this square. See how lovely the low Autumn sun shines on the fountain?
1. Balans
I like to walk the streets along the town canals and admire the old houses (and, if I get a change, take a peek through the windows to see what the inside looks…)
2. Penninghoeksingel
We walk just outside the town centre, through the back treets behind the city hall, see its tower?
3. Penninghoeksingel
Let’s take a turn and cross the centre to the other side… OH LOOK, there’s someone waving at us!
4. Kromme Weele
Here’s one of the shopping streets, but we will not go shopping today… we just have to walk a part of it to turn right at the end… and look, there’s Tall Jan keeping watch over the town.
5. Lange Viele
Here’s one of my favourite places in town, the ‘Fish market’.
6. Vismarkt
… and this is why I told you to put flat shoes on… Middelburg is no town for high heels!
7. Vismarkt
Let’s walk along another canel… and while we walk, we can take peeks through the little gates into the alleys that are behind it.
8. Hagepreekgang
We’ve been here before haven’t we? It’s always nice to look at the boats in the small harbour. Tourist season is over so there aren’t that many yachts there, but still there is the bridge to admire.
9. Spijkerbrug
Yes, we’re close to my home – there’s the Eastern Church.
10. Oostkerk
However, we’re not going home yet. Let’s take a detour and walk a bit further.
11. Molenwater
There’s the park that will be refurbished in the next year, but with those Autumn colors it looks good to me right now…
12. Molenwaterpark
Hey, there’s a back alley that I never walked before… let’s take that turn and see where it leads to…
13. Bleekersgang
Oh, we end up at the little street where Sandra van der Meulen has her gallery… the flag is hanging outside which means the gallery is open, let’s go for a visit!
14. Atelier Sandra van der Meulen
Sandra is such a lovely lady – she serves us coffee and we get the change to admire her latest art.
Now that was some ending to this walk! What? Are your feet hurt? I told you to put on your ‘easy shoes’! But hey, we’re home now, so take them off, put your feet up and enjoy the rest of your day!

I really enjoyed walking with you, Marit – thank you!

Wow, Marit, that was certainly different. I enjoyed the walk so much as it stirred up so many memories of my lovely little trips to your beautiful country. Kind of a mix of things I have seen in Amersfoort and Harlem. Thank you so much.
I especially loved the little guy waving at us – is that in a shop or a house? So cute and the kind of things I love to see when visiting somewhere.
(Thank you also for the information about the ‘old sticks’ – I did write and thank you didn’t I? They were the soft kind but I am not sure they are really me)
Hugs and thank you so much for that walk – just what I needed this morning.

Happy WOYWW. What a great idea. I will have to do something similar with our local towns – and when we are in Spain, and it is more pleasant to stroll/take photographs in the warm sunshine. Thank you for sharing your beautiful surroundings. Ali x #22

Hi MArit, thoroughly enjoyed the walk around your town! I found in Amsterdam and other places, high heels would not be a good idea! Fortunately these days I mainly wear trainers, lol. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

I feel so refreshed now Marit, it has been a long time since I wore my heels so I was well prepared. So picturesque I would be sat outside in all weathers if I had such inspiration around me.
Thank you so much for the tour dear and enjoy those neocolors II my go to for every creative mood.
Happy woyww Hugs Tracey #6

Great post! Loved it! I also loved the park, I will be interested to see the changes. I have visited a park from my childhood and am very disappointed with some parts of it – I will be blogging about it soon.
Thank you so much for sharing your walk.

Wonderful Marit, just wonderful. Cobbled streets are utterly horrid for my wonky balance, but I can always make exceptions, Middelburg is so lovely!

Lovely trip Marit, really enjoyed it. I love those little guys sat look through the window and great artwork too though I am not surprised as there has always been very talented Dutch artists both now and in the past. Happy woyww, Angela x19x

What a lovely walk! Such a beautiful place to live! How long did that walk take? Nice start to your journal page – I do that too, start the background and just lay things on top and leave it for awhile. Then they tell me what they want to do! Have a great week, Lindart #24

Hi Marit, totally loved that walk around town. I recall Amsterdam having loads of those cobbled paths, as you say, no place for heels! Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #5 X

What a lovely post today, Marit – and a beautiful walk round your oh-so-lovely town. I’d love to see it in person, camera in hand! I’d probably stumble on the cobbles, in flat shoes but they look fabulous Helen #4

Middelburg really is a lovely town, Marit, I hope you are very happy and settled there. The cobbles would certainly cause me trouble, even in sensible shoes…my bad balance doesn’t like them at all!! Lovely post, and a lovely way to wind down on Wednesday evening, thank you!
