Ohmy, ohmy…. can you believe it? I created an old fashioned scrap lay out last week! I’m sure you are dead curious to hear why I all of a sudden went back to scrap-booking and I will tell you in a minute but first, a photo of my work desk. ‘Cause after all, it is ‘What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday” and that’s what you came for, right?!
No, you don’t see scrap-design paper nor photos on my blog – it’s back to art journaling! However, I intend to make a layout more often.
Last week, my BFF (since childhood) Lena and I planned a ‘girls day.’ Since I moved back to Zeeland and live near her we see each other more often. Most of those days we don’t do anything special: we hang out, drink coffee on a cafe terrace and talk a lot. And there’s giggles and smiles – a lot! Last week, when we came home from our ‘shopping trip’ (I only bought some brushes and Washi tape) to chill out at my home, we flipped through my old scrapbook albums. The last lay outs in the albums were created sometime in 2010 – and I found it a pity that there aren’t any recent photos in the albums…
…and all of a sudden, we decided to both make a scrap layout again! It had been years since I or she scrapped (Lena is a painter) and we both thought it would be fun to try and see if we ‘still have it in us’. So we made a series of selfies and challenged ourselves to create a scrap lay out using one or more of these photos.
There were 7 photos and I printed them all… one in a big size (the photo which I thought was the nicest) and six in smaller sizes. OK, now that was the easy part… now what?
I forgot how much choices you have to make when you start scrap-booking… decisions on the style you want to work in, background paper (design and colors,) embellishments etc. etc.
To make a long story short… here’s what I created. (I got rid of 2 photos as there was no room for it)
Last weekend, Lena finished her lay out too and we exchanged the photos.
Here’s what she made out of the same photo series.
Without deliberation we both choose the same photo as ‘the nicest’… but Lena printed it in black and white, which gives it a different feel.
It was so much fun to do and since I find it a shame that the album lay outs ‘stop’ in 2010, I decided to make a scrap lay out every now and then and keep it going.
And what are you up to these days?
I’ll check out your desks this week to find out.
Have a great week!

These are so fun Marit! I also come from a scrapbooking background but haven’t scrapped anything for ages. I would love to incorporate photos into art journalling/mixed media type projects. Scrapbooking doesn’t necessarily have to be “old-fashioned” – I love how Finnabair does it with all those gorgeous layers of hers! Love the photo with your tongue out – so funny! Enjoy your week! zsuzsa #25

Love how your art journaling shines through when you make a scrapbook layout! Painting, doodles and colourful happiness – keep your promise and make more of them, please?

I don’t think that I dare start scrapbooking. The one’s I have are all incomplete as I have no way of printing off photos. I, too have started art journaling; it’s a great feeling especially when things look terrible, then all come together at the last moment. Love the scrapbook layouts.

So good to hear that you and your friend still have it in you! I had to laugh that you forgot how many choices there are to be made when scrapbooking. It’s the same with card making. At some point you have to tell yourself to quit digging through your stash for more selections and just use what you have pulled out or you’ll never get done. Thanks for letting us visit your well labeled desk! PJ #36

Happy WOYWW. Great LOs. I have never actually done any physical scrapbooking (although I am always saying I will start) – only digital, which is fun too. Ali x #19

They’re lovely layouts so yes, you must do more! I am so far behind I don’t think I’m ever going to get caught up. But I keep plugging away. It bugs me that I got my daughter fully formed at 9 years old (I’m a step parent) so we have no baby layouts… 🙁
Have a lovely week!
