Last Saturday, the Dutch celebrated ‘Queens day’.
\nI could go and explain what that means, for all foreigners who read my blog
\nand don’t know what I am talking about, but I have extensively done that
\nalready two years ago in this post<\/a>.<\/p>\n

For crafty people like me, Queens day is one big day because the whole
\ncountry changes into a flea market… and you can imagine the fun goodies
\nthat can be found and bought for give-away-prizes! You might have seen
\nphotos of peoples ‘catches’ already on other Dutch blogs and I will show
\nyou what I bought…<\/p>\n

This year, I focused on books and magazines to use for collages!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>..<\/p>\n

The bottom magazine (see
\nthe world\u00a0 map?) contains
\nsmall pictures of different
\ncultures.<\/p>\n

The big book is a
\nchildren’s encyclopedia.<\/p>\n

A book with photos of
\nZeeland. (my hometown
\nregion)<\/p>\n

A stack of smaller
\nmagazines(‘Taptoe’)
\nwhich contains a lot of
\nfun photos and images.<\/p>\n

Ten glossy (fashion)
\nmagazines.<\/p>\n

And on top, a magazine (‘Libelle’) from 1953.<\/p>\n

It weights a lot, and I had to bring it all home before I hit the town
\nfor the second time!<\/p>\n

I found three ‘Snoecks’ – very thick magazines\/books that come out every
\nyear highlighting the art, films, plays, fashion and hypes of that year.
\nGreat ‘artsy’ photos inside!<\/p>\n

Besides this, I bought me two novels from the Irish writer Maeve Binchy.
\n(50 cents each!) If you like reading, she writes the ultimate ‘Summer reads’.
\n(Good novels – no ‘literature’, but not too ‘simple’ either)<\/p>\n

Having your own company means that I don’t really work ‘9 to 5’.
\nSometimes work gets crazy, and some periods are real slow with lots of
\ntime to spend on creating. But life got a lot busier since I got the job
\nwriting the articles for ‘Creatief met Foto’s<\/a>‘. I mean, I write (almost) ALL
\nthe articles!! The magazine comes out every other month. For me, that
\nmeans writing about 60 pages in 3 weeks every other month… and yep,
\nthat can be called ‘Manic’…. I thought about this, while making my page.<\/p>\n
I used a ‘text’ stamp to stamp the background. My son took this photo of me
\nfor a project some time ago. I edited the photo in Photoshop. I used twill tape
\n(fabric) to stamp part of the lyrics on. I sewed the ribbon onto the page.
\nI also (machine) stitched a border.<\/p>\n

The photos of Ilse de Lange (see this post<\/a>) are too beautiful not to use!
\nAnd ofcourse I had to document the ‘Royal wedding’. The image isn’t
\nhigh quality (I tore it out of the newspaper) but it will do as a reminder.<\/p>\n

This awesome, big art journal has pages of thick, textured paper!
\nI used gesso, paint and water soluble crayons to colour it.
\nThe figure is a pic from the Internet. I put my smiling guy stamp\/head on top.
\nThe quote is written with black markers (‘Steadler”‘) and copic markers.
\nThe snails come from a magazine. I used a pearl pen for the dimensional dots.
\nThe frame is made with all kinds of scraps.<\/p>\n
You may have noticed that I put the sizes of each piece with the images.
\nI found out that sometimes it is confusing to my readers how big something is…
\nI will try to remember to note the measurements from now on.<\/p>\n
