How come?
\nWell, I dared Phinner<\/a> the other day to both make something for the
\nchallenge at Scrapping the Music<\/a> – I did my part \ud83d\ude00 and to be in time
\nfor the deadline (June 27) I post it right now.<\/p>\n

Challenge 201A<\/em> is the song ‘It’s a good Life’ by One Republic.
\nI never heard of this band, nor the song… I found the title a bit
\ntoo obvious to work with but the lyrics had some other fun sentences.
\n(Find the video, song and lyrics on the STM blog)<\/p>\n

I made two ATCs for ‘It’s a Good Life’<\/p>\n

\"ATC\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Scrapping the Music has two challenges every time… one with a song
\n(the above) and one extra, that is a little bit more personal.
\nThese ‘B – challenges’ are very useful to make an art journal page for example,
\nbut I decided to make yet another ATC.<\/p>\n

Challenge 201B<\/em> Prompt:
\nMost Memorable Summertime Song.\u00a0 Whenever you hear it,<\/em>
\n what are the memories that come back to you?<\/em><\/p>\n

A lot of songs came to mind when I read the prompt.
\nSongs that certainly have a\u00a0 ‘Summer Feeling’ – but none of them had
\na special memory of some sort to me… and then I remembered this one!<\/p>\n

Baccara – Yes Sir, I can Boogie<\/strong><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

\"ATC\"<\/a>I remember when I was a little
\ngirl, I accompanied my dad
\nto the local pub every now and
\nthen. On Sundays he played
\nbilliards and since I lived in a
\nvery small village, I knew all
\nthe men in the cafe. My two
\nuncles would be there too and I
\nloved to sit at the bar and watch
\nthem all play.<\/p>\n

There was something very
\ncomforting in hearing the
\nbilliard balls click. I watched
\nthe game of those mumbling
\n(and sometimes teasing and
\nlaughing) men while the air
\nfilled with the smell of beer
\nand cigars.<\/p>\n

I especially remember that one Summer – it was hot outside but in the cafe
\nit was dark and kinda cool. I sat on my bar tool, sipping coca cola through
\na straw and this song played over and over. Did someone put a dime in the
\njukebox? Was it on a tape that the bar lady had set on repeat?<\/p>\n

Anyway, this song was a topper in the Summer of ’77 and I liked the song.
\nI liked the strange, funny Spanish (?) accent of the ladies singing it (I wonder
\nif you English speaking blogreaders can understand the very first sentence,
\nright after ‘Mister…’) and I can sing along even now. I sang it with my friends
\nwhen we went to the beach. We sang it when we chilled on our teenage rooms
\nbut the memory that stayed most with me was the afternoon when I heard it
\nin the pub.<\/p>\n

Happy memories. Childhood.
\nLong gone, but brought back by Scrapping the Music.

(I don’t know if this song was as much a hit in other countries as it was
\nin Holland, and younger readers will not know it either – for Baccara
\nwas a ‘one hit wonder’ – so here’s a link to the song and clip<\/a>.
\n(be sure to listen at least to the chorus at 1:09 – oh, and for you who puzzle
\nabout that first sentence: “Mister, your eyes are full of hesitation…”<\/em> )<\/p>\n
