I took off with a Monday-post… today I’m halfway up
\nand by Friday, I will be flying high…. yeeehaaa!!!<\/p>\n

Hello, good morning my friends!
\nYet another post.
\nLots of photos.
\nLet’s cut the rambling (there’s enough journaling with the photos)
\nand get going, shall we?!<\/p>\n

Today, I’m a guest designer at Dutch Dares<\/a><\/p>\n

Dutch Dare is, as the name says it, a Dutch challenge blog.
\nI won the former ‘Dare’ and I was asked to be a guest designer for this prompt,
\nwhich was “Wat de pot schaft” (it’s difficult to find a good translation for this
\nverb. It means something like “what’s for dinner”)<\/p>\n

It has been ages since I made a mini album, and that cute little
\nMaja Road album just lay there… time to get it from the shelf!<\/p>\n

Here’s my guest-designer’s-take on the prompt!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

I wanted this mini to be fun and colourful. The sides are crocheted.
\n(Recognize that paper on the cover Jenneke \ud83d\ude00 )<\/p>\n

On every double page, I show a ‘meal’ that has a background or history.
\nThe photos show the food. They are all cut out of magazines exept for the
\nFrench fries. After flipping through ALL 46 magazines with recipes –
\nfor the Dutchies: “Allerhande” – I still was left empty-handed.
\nEven my beloved helped looking for french fries.
\n(Picture us, sitting at the table with a huge stack of magazines and NOT
\nfind one pic of French fries! Holland must be a healthy country!
\nWe did get hungry by seeing all the other, lovely food-photos though…)<\/p>\n

The journaling on the left pages tells something about the particular meal
\n(no, I don’t give the recipes…)
\nIt’s difficult to read, and you noisy ones like to know what it says, right?
\nI will tell you in Dutch \u00e1nd English (aren’t I sweet *teehee*)<\/p>\n

Zeeuwse Mosselen (Mussels from Zeeland)<\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

“Als echte Zeeuwse is het niet gek dat mosselen mijn favoriete eten is –
\nmaar dat is niet altijd zo geweest! Ik was al ver in de twintig toen ik ze
\npas ging waarderen. Gelukkig is M. er ook gek op, en het is echt feest als
\nwe ze eten! We halen ze dan ook in Yerseke, want die zijn het aller- aller-
\nlekkerste! Met wat sausjes, een warm stokbroodje, en friet natuurlijk.
\nEn witte wijn, heel veel witte wijn!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“As a child from the province Zeeland, it isn’t surprising that my favourite
\nfood is mussels – but that wasn’t always the case.
\nI was already in my twenties when I started to like this particular sea-food.
\nFortunately, M. loves it too, and it’s a real celebration when we eat mussels
\nnowadays! We go buy them all the way in *Yerseke, because the fresh mussels
\nthat you can buy there are the most delicious! We eat it with a dip-sauce,
\na warm baguette and French fries. And white wine, lots of white wine!”<\/span><\/p>\n

(* Yerseke is ‘the mussel village’ in Zeeland, it’s an almost 2 hour drive…)<\/span><\/p>\n

Biefstuk “van Loetje” (Steak “Loetje”)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Ik ben helemaal geen keukenprinses, en vooral met vlees ga ik nogal eens
\nde mist in. Nu is het vlees van tegenwoordig natuurlijk zowieso amper te
\nvreten – ook als het goed is klaargemaakt smaakt het nergens naar – maar
\nik weet het dan nog extra te verpesten. Behalve dan met biefstuk.
\nSinds ik dit recept in de Allerhande vond, en het vlees “volgens Loetje”
\nklaarmaak, mislukt de biefstuk nooit meer. We eten er een witte boterham
\nbij, en het smaakt echt goed!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“I’m not an excellent cook and especially with meat, I often fall flat.
\nNow the meat of today isn’t tasty anyway – even if it is properly cooked,
\nit often tastes like crap – but whatever meat we buy, I get it done to ruin it.
\nExcept with steak! Since I discovered this recipe and bake it “according to
\nLoetje” the steak never fails. We eat it with a white sandwich, and it tastes
\nreally good! “<\/span><\/p>\n

Pasta met broccoli saus (pasta with broccoli sauce)<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Dit gerecht stamt nog uit mijn studententijd! Je hebt maar twee pannen
\nnodig, en het kan snel in grote hoeveelheden worden gemaakt. Niet dat ik
\ndat doe, want M. houdt niet van pasta. N. en ik zijn er echter dol op.
\nEens in de zoveel tijd maak ik dit dus klaar, en dan eet M. maar een sateetje
\nof zo. N. begint al te glimmen als hij uit school komt en het ruikt. Er zitten
\naardig wat calorieen in vrees ik, want naast spekjes gaat er ook een beker
\nslagroom in! Nog even, en dan gaat N. op kamers – maar dit recept zal hij
\nzeker van zijn moeder overnemen!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“This dish is a remnant from my student days! You only need two pans,
\nand it can be made quickly in large quantities. Not that I do that, because M.
\ndoes not like pasta. However, N. and I love it. So once in a while I cook this
\ndish, and then M. can have a burger or so. N. always starts to shine when he
\ncomes home from school and smells the pasta. I fear this dish contains quite
\na few calories because it not only has bacon in it, but also a cup of whipped
\ncream! I will be an empty-nester pretty soon now, but I’m sure N. will take
\nthis recipe from his mother with him to cook for his fellow students! “<\/span><\/p>\n

Boeuf Stroganoff<\/strong><\/p>\n

“Nog zo’n makkelijk gerecht, want je hoeft niet echt op de tijd te letten.
\nStoofpotten! Ik zet het ‘s morgens op en het pruttelt de hele dag gezellig in
\nde pan. Vlaamse stoof, Indonesische ‘boemboe’of deze Boeuf Stroganoff.
\nToch komt het ooit voor dat ook hierbij het vlees niet smaakt of taai is, maar
\ndat ligt in dat geval dan toch echt aan het vlees en niet aan mij! Vaak is dit
\ngerecht de volgende dag trouwens nog lekkerder omdat het een nachtje heeft
\nkunnen staan en alle kruiden lekker in het vlees zijn getrokken. Omdat ik niet
\ngraag kook, hou ik hier wel van: \u00e9\u00e9n dag koken en twee dagen te eten – handig!
\nOok dit recept komt uit de Allerhande. Veel paprika en champignons erin.
\nRijst erbij. Klaar!”<\/span><\/p>\n

“Another easy dish, because you don’t really have to look at the cooking time:
\nStews! I prepare the meat in the morning and let it simmer whole day.
\nFlemish stew, Indonesian ‘boemboe’ or this Boeuf Stroganoff . It happens that
\nthe meat doesn’t taste well, or is kinda tough but in that case the blame is on
\nthe meat, not me! Often this dish taste even better the next day because the
\nmeat had the time to take up the herbs. Because I don’t like to cook, I find
\nstews very handy: only one day cooking and I have a two-day-diner!
\nLots of paprika. Mushrooms. Rice. Ready!”<\/span><\/p>\n

Hmm… I’ve never heard of Regina Spektor nor heard the song.
\nI went with the lines “thought I’d been in love before, but in my heart
\nI wanted more, seems all I really was doing was waiting for you.”
\nI used glimmermist to spray the ‘anonymous’ men in the background –
\nthey stand for the men I “thought I’d been in love” with (there were more
\nthen the four I sprayed here… *teehee*) I transferred a photo of my beloved
\nonto the page. The photo of me is edited in Photoshop.
\nI wrote the text with a marker and a white sharpie.
\nThe dimension line is made with a pearl pen (sort of ‘puffy paint’).<\/p>\n
