The One Ring
on Sunday Morning…

I always have to giggle when I make up the titles for my posts!
It just happens so that if I place the titles of my layouts together,
nine out of ten times a new title is born.

Yes, I have two layouts to show you today.
Both made with Harlee Quinnz Designs papers (from two different lines.)

Here’s the first:

 The One Ring

The background paper is called “Fairy Grove”
(from the Harlee Quinnz Design line: “Butterfly Garden”)

It totally fits the atmosphere I wanted to create in this layout…
a bit of a mystical, secret feeling.
If you remember my Leonard Cohen art journal page “If It Be Your Will”
then the image of the woman will look familiar to you…
it’s a picture I cut from the same magazine article.
I painted a bit over this one too…

The “one ring” is a photo of my own ring… read more about that over here

The journaling is elvish from “Lord of the Rings”

“One ring to rule them all –   One ring to find them
One ring to bring them all –  And in the darkness bind them”

Detail
Machine stitching
to intensify the
woman’s posture.

Detail
I fooled around
with Tim Holtz
alcohol ink and
blending solution
on a transparency
sheet… wonderful
effects!

I wrote the text
on the transparency
with a sharpie.

I made the next layout – Sunday Morning – for the challenge at
These are a few of my favorite things

Their challenge was to scrap about your favourite time of the day.
I love Sunday Mornings – when my men are still in bed and
I am alone in the living room, having a coffee and enjoying the quiet
and peacefulness of the room.

For this layout I used the Harlee Quinnz Designs line “Scents I remember”
I made the background with two sheets of paper: “Smokin” and “Lucky Stripe”
I love the colours of this paperline… those earthly, smokey browns, caramels
and beige’s are totally up my alley!

Detail
Painted some old
chipboard alpha’s
and inked the
edges…

…and I’m in love
with my sewing machine
again…

Journaling:
(written on a journaling
notepaper from
“Making memories”)

“Early
sunrise
peeks through
the curtains.
My men are
still asleep.
Just the
quiet room,
me
and my coffee
on an early
Sunday morning”

I finished yet another layout but I’m not allowed to show that to you today…
I will publish it on Friday (“Lotus day”) so you’ll have to wait for that one.

And now, I’m gonna make me a large pot of hot tea with lemon,
curl on the couch with a family package of paper handkerchiefs right next
to me and cough my longs out…. yes, it’s that time of year!
My son came home with a nasty cold last week, and now the whole family
is infected. A tickling cough (for the Dutchies,  “drop” helps!) and a voice
like Bob Dylan…. eeeeeeccckkkk!!!

So I will be giving my hug from a safe distance this time…

Hi Marit! I’m so very behind in my blog visiting so I had a lovely time here browsing through so much I’ve missed. I hope your dad is okay – what a scary thing to have happen, scary for all of you.

These layouts are lovely. Just divine. Your work is always divine. I read your post about putting more of yourself into your pieces. I think that is something I’ve struggled on and off with too – just have to let it come a little at a time and down the road you end up amazed at how much you’ve grown every time you stretched a bit. But, from the viewer’s perspective, your pieces are lovely and so definitely uniquely yours.

Oh Marit, so sorry you are sick – I had a bad head cold about 2 weeks ago but fortunately it cleared up pretty quickly.
Your layouts are so beautiful and unique – so mysterious. You’re right about the HQ Scents to Remember papers; they lend themselves to a lot of ideas, and the smokey ones look very ethereal. I love all the stitching on your layouts and your journaling is so moving and always to the point. Thanks so much for playing along with us at TAAFOMFT. BTW, I have been working on some more Harlee-Quinnz Designs layouts and hope to show them next. And the blog is looking great – you have done a spectacular job on it!

Both of these are amazing Marit!!! Looovveeee the machine stitching! If I tried that, which I can’t because I don’t own a sewing machine, I probably would have sewed all over that poor woman! haha Hope you get better soon!

    Heel goed weekend!
