Me and ribbons?

When I saw the new Lotus Paperie challenge # 147
I thought “OH, NO….”
“Use your ribbon scraps” it says…

Me and ribbons?
Not a good combination!
But hey, I’m a DT-member and I “keep my pecker up”
(that’s what my dictionary says to use in a situation like this –
I hope that’s right ’cause when I looked up “pecker” I got
other images in mind reading this line…)

OK, on to it.
Me and ribbons.
I pulled the ribbon box out of the closet
(it was way in the back!)
I cut pieces of ribbon.
Lots of them.
When I have to use it, I might as well overdo it!

And look what I ended up with…

This is my son on his 5th birthday party.
It’s a long time ago, but I remember this!
All the kids painted their faces, and afterwards they went outside where
I’d hang big sheets of paper on a long wall. There was a lot of paint and
brushes involved and they had fun, fun, fun! (The mums who came to pick
up their kids after the party didn’t think of it as “fun” when they saw the
clothes, but you could wash it off easily, so no whining please!)

And did I use
ribbon scraps?!!
I used pieces
of about ALL
the ribbon
I could find
in da house!

Machine stitching
for extra colour
and dimension.

The result is
ONE HAPPY
LAYOUT!!!

This way, even
I like ribbon!

Used my Tim Holtz
alphabet mask –
not for spraying and
misting but to
outline the alpha’s.

Added just
a little touch
of colour to the
title by using
coloured pencils.

And here’s my conclusion:
If you’re in to ribbons… hop on over to the Lotus Paperie blog and
if you’re NOT in to ribbons… hop on over to the Lotus Paperie blog!

You can do it too! Play along!

I had a lot of “left overs” laying around – tissue paper I used to wipe of
too much spay ink, a lovely photo cut from an old calendar… things like
that. I also bought me an alpha stamp set last Sunday, and wanted to
play with that, so I made this page in my art journal for the challenge
at “These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

The challenge was to scrap your favourite season…
for me that is the late summer.

Journaling
Big text:
In the late summer, the island is mine.”

Small text:
“I love the late Summer when all the tourists went back home
and the beach is empty and deserted again. The sun – still warm –
throws long shadows and the marram grass gets golden.
I can hear the sea sing now that children don’t drown that sound with their
shrill voices. I can smell the waves now that there’s no suntan oil odour
to force itself into my nose. I most like to walk on top of my dunes
in the late Summer and early Fall.
The panorama without people, the wind in my hair.
The island belongs to it’s inmates again. To me.
The waves sing their song for me only – in the late Summer.”

There’s also little pieces torn out of an old fairy tale book on this page
(there was a story in the book called “The story of the Sand Dunes” –
Oh, those happy coincidences!)
I used my shell stamp and a (sanded) photo of me.
Did I forget something? No, I think that’s it!
Can you tell I just fooled around and had fun?!

Detail
a lot of texture
made with
tissue paper
and gel medium.

(It looks kinda
sordid on this
photo though…)

Never throw away those left over pieces of paper nor old calendars nor….
aaaah, well, you know that don’t you?! I bet your house is filled with
“don’t-throw-that-away-dear-yes-I-know-it-looks-like-rubbish-but
-I-want-to-keep-its” too
Maybe I will go look for more of these things this weekend.
Hope you have a relaxed and playful weekend too!

Je t’embrasse!

For someone who doesn’t care for ribbons, you did an amazing job. I love that layout.

(I have never heard that phrase before. That word can have to do with a bird that eats bugs or the other stuff you found when you did a search. I don’t use it unless I am talking about the bird though.)

You should use ribbon more often. You are very good at it.

Marit I am cracking up over here over your “keep your pecker up” expression because I have a totally different vision in mind!! haha It must be a difference in language like in England when they call a cigarette a fag? hahaha Your ribbon layout is amazing, one of my faves of yours for sure!! I have enough ribbon I could weave rapunzel a wig and still have some left over. This really is a challenge I need to do!!! Love the journal page as well!!

  • Ang Says:

  • Peggy Says:

    Groetjes,
    Peggy
