Confrontation
Because my drivers license almost expired, I had to go to the
local government office to replace my old one for a new…
I postponed the trip a few times but with only one week of validity left,
I couldn’t ignore it anymore – so yesterday I hopped on my bike to get
an OFFICIAL PHOTO taken.
Eeeekkk, that “official photo” was the reason to postpone the whole thing
in the first place – and not just for any reason…
I don’t know how it is in other countries, but in the Netherlands the photo
on your passport or drivers licence has to comply with certain rules.
So with fear in my heart I cycled to the “official photographer”
(my son offered to take my picture and I’m sure I would have loved
his photo. But no way – it has to be “official”)
And yes, as if the angels were laughing with me, it started to rain
on my way over there…
See me coming into that store?
Dripping all over the place, my hair all wet and messy, my nose red
from the cold and half blind ’cause of my misty glasses…
“Uuuuhhhmmm, I need my picture taken for my drivers licence.”
The guy offered me a mirror.
He rather not… I looked worse then I thought!
I rearranged my hair a bit and sat down on a stool.
I decided to laugh about it and let this get over with…
“OK, what are the rules”
And then I had to stick to this:
- Your ears must both be visible.
(I have BIG EARS! Especially the right one!
That’s why I always have a hairstyle that leaves
my right ear invisible…) - You can’t wear a hat or cap.
(are there people doing that on such a photo?) - You have to face the camera.
(no “show your best side” possible here…) - You are not allowed to smile.
(the guy said “but it’s allowed to look friendly, ma’am” – uh-uh!) - The flashlight may not show in your glasses.
He took a photo. And another one. And another one. And another one…
The flashlight kept reflecting in my glasses.
I moved a bit to the right, a bit to the left. Chin up a bit. Chin down a bit.
And another photo. And another one….
until I asked him: “is it allowed to put my glasses off for this photo?”
“Yes, it is” he said in a relieved tone.
So I took my glasses off.
I have to face it…
this is me.
Greasy looking hair.
(it’s WET, not grease!)
Big ears.
Hanging eyelids
(no glasses to
camouflage it!)
Bags under my eyes.
All folded and wrinkled.
I did my best though…
I even wear lipstick!
After this exercise, going to the governments office to replace my
drivers license was peanuts!
Lets just hope I won’t get pulled over in the next few years….

I never would have thougt of using a coffee filter on a layout myself,
but it was fun once I started to think about how to use it…
I could think of so many things! Let’s see what you come up with!

I have plans for the weekend… already printed some photo’s and I’m
eager to start on a layout for T.A.A.F.O.M.F.T.
Their challenge is to scrap your favourite vacation/trip and I knew what
to use right away… in my head it’s a funny and gorgeous layout already
– I just have to make it! Hope it will turn out the way I want!

I hate having to renew my license too, i hate getting my picture taken, it always looks like a mug shot. lol

Here in the US, they take your photo at the driver’s license office – you are just standing there and they click it so you can imagine how awful those pix are!!!!!! Fortunately they are tiny. I don’t think your photo is bad at all – I think we all hate our own photos (at least I always do) but I love your layout and your “older” photo is lovely. Have a great weekend!

Het valt nog reuze mee hoor. Je ziet er nog steeds mooi uit. Je hilarische verhaal komt me bekent voor. Op mijn rijbewijs zit een foto waarop het lijkt of mijn laatste uur geslagen heeft. Vreselijk!!! haha.

Arme, arme Marit, hihi… Tja, we zijn allemaal de klos hier in Nederland, dus laat dat een troost voor je zijn!
Ik ben een echte fan van Lotus Paperie! En dat is niet alleen omdat jij in het DT zit hoor, ik vind de challenges altijd heel erg leuk! Neem nou deze, een koffiefilter gebruiken, wie komt daar nou op? En wat een mooi werk heeft het DT weer geleverd!! Super! Ik ga m’n best weer doen!

OMG your story is too funny! Here in the US we are allowed to smile, but still the pics always seem to look like mug shots. Your Lotus layout is gorgeous! I love the crochet on the coffee filter – beautiful!

Ja… dat is echt confronterend hé!! Daarom loop ik dus nog steeds met een 3 jaar!! verlopen ID kaart… oops!
Je foto valt nog mee hoor marit, ik vind het alleen belachelijk al die regeltjes! Wie wil er nou MET oren en zonder lachen op de foto!!!!
Ik moet er dus ook aan geloven, als ze me vragen naar m’n ID ben ik zwaar de ***
Ik weet trouwnes niet of ik net zo dapper ben om die foto op mijn blog te zetten!! 😉

pasfoto’s laten maken vind ik ook altijd vreselijk! maar er is niks mis met jou pasfoto, heb ik erg gelachen om je hilarische vehaal 🙂 🙂 je lo is weer prachtig, super het gehaakte randje aan de koffiefilter!!!

Oh you have me in such a giggle….I always feel that horrible dread when it comes time to renew my license!!!!! The picture is never very flattering…but you soooooo made me laugh!!!! The pic is really not that bad!!!! I adore your Blog and I so love the LO you did for LP with the crochet…I saw this and wondered how in the world you did this!!!!! hihi, na dat verhaal had ik één of andere monstrueuze foto verwacht … maar dat viel toch echt wel mee. Ik vind echt dat je daar goed op staat, een lachje had wonderen gedaan, maar ja, als het niet mag, dan mag het niet hé. Wat een belachelijke regels toch allemaal. In België hebben wij die regels gelukkig niet (of het moet zijn dat ik ze al altijd genegeerd heb LOL), maar nu moet je niet denken dat mijn foto’s beter zijn hoor. Zelfs met bedekte oren kunnen de foto’s dik tegenslagen, geloof me nou maar op mijn woord, want geen haar op mijn hoofd dat eraan denkt om die op mijn blog te zetten haha.
Ik vind die Lotus Paperie challenge echt tof, en wat jij ervan gemaakt hebt (en ook de andere DT leden) super! Je zult me toch eens moeten zeggen wat je nog meer met een koffiefilter kan doen, want verder dan een bloem kom ik niet … zelfs aan die waaier van jou zou ik niet gedacht hebben… weeral prachtig gedaan Marit, jouw creativiteit kent geen grenzen!
