Fragments of a Self
(Freewheelin’ Friday #27)

What did I write in the last post???
“Expect to see more artwork coming from now on…”

Not yet, my friends, not much anyway.

Yes, I had more time last week and yes I made good use of it but photo’s
of a clean toilet, a neat bathroom, fresh sheets on the beds and ironed
clothes in the cabinet aren’t very interesting to you I guess…
I can tell my men found it VERY MUCH interesting! 😀

But you know me… I  couldn’t let the week pass by completely without
being creative so don’t worry, I have something to show you.

..

..

The mailman
brought me a huge
envelope last week
and I couldn’t
believe my eyes
when I opened it!

Kathy (“amusing
muses”
) send me
these beautiful
prints! I won two
of them a while ago,
but she send me so much more…
..

It’s going to be difficult to choose which of the print(s) I will frame,
each one is gorgeous in it’s own way and I love them all!!!
Thank you so much sweet Kathy!!!

..

I was a little bit behind with the “A Year in the Life of an Art Journal
challenges – the new one (#11) was on the blog last Tuesday while I
still had to make prompt #10… so in between cleaning and laundry
I worked on a page with the word “Self”.

Fragments of a Self

The inspiration came from my own workshop where there was a lesson
last week about pop art. I had some examples in the lesson and one of
the art works was by David Hockney who works with Polaroids.

I used some light paint and distress ink on the background and journaled
with a grey pen.

..

The journaling
is all about me;
the roles I have
in life (mother,
daughter, lover)

The things I love,
the things I hate
and so on.

You get the picture,
right?

..

I used several detailed photo’s of myself to make the collage.
I used Tim Holtz alpha masks –  outlined with a black marker – for the title.
It says “Fragments of a Self” and I gave the inside just a little bit of colour
with distress ink. A few paint strokes using a dry brush finished the page of.

..

This is going to be a long post after all… ’cause while I’m typing my post
my son is cleaning his room upstairs and just a minute ago he suddenly
stood behind me…

N: “Mum?”

Me: “Hmmm?”

N: “This is your lucky day!”

Me: “Oh?”

N: “Look!”

Me: “I’m writing a post, hon”

N: “But look, remember this?”

Me: *sigh*

(turning around)

Me: “Yes, I remember!
that’s the journal
you bought from
your saving money
a few years back.”

N: “I only wrote
on the first page
and I don’t have
any use for it really
so I want to give it
to you mum.
With all your
art journaling
and all…
I just know
you will
have a good
use for it.”

My oh my! Isn’t that the sweetest thing? I guess it IS my lucky day!

The book is 25 x 35 cm (9.8 x 13.7 inch) and there’s a protective sheet
between each page… WOW!

And take
a look
at the
texture
of the
paper!

There are
little fibres
in the paper
and the
structure
is so neat!

I’d love
to try some
water colour
paint on this…!

..

So this was a long post after all.
I hope to show some more artwork next week… I’m sure I can’t resist
this new journal and start working in it this weekend!
See you next week!

Je t’embrasse!

And remember: you have until July 1st for this:
I am gathering advice and wisdom from all over the world – to add in a mini
album I’m creating for my son to give to him as he graduates highschool ánd
turns 18. What would you say to him? What advice would you give to a young
adult, stepping into a new life phase? All quotes, suggestions, advice, poems

and so on are welcome! Read more about it in this post.
