Troubled weekend

I had planned a weekend full of scrapping time for myself, but life doesn’t always follow your plans, does it? On Saturday, very early in the morning,
I was waked by the phone (and everybody knows that when the phone rings that early and that long, it’s gonna be sad and frightening news…) My brother called me from Canada (he lives there with his family) to tell me his daughter Lisa (my niece, she’s 17 years old) had been in a car accident and was very badly injured…

It wasn’t yet very clear what injuries she had at that time but now, two days later, we know a lot more and briefly this is it:

Sad news,

Lisa was involved in a serious car crash Friday afternoon, and is in a serious condition in The Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg
It’s not life threatening anymore, but she will be in hospital for a long time. She got a broken neck, broken back, fractured elbow, her arm and wrist are broken and a couple minor injuries. The doctors say she will recover 100%, but it will take a long time.

I didn’t do much for the rest of the weekend…

“Teeny weeny”

I got my gift from Lou in the mail yesterday. She called it “teeny weeny”, but although it’s not a very big object, I consider it a BIG gift! I’m very happy with it! Take a look!

She made me a small box, with my name on it and some sweet flowers. I love the colours!

The morning paper,
coffee & cigarettes.

As you may (or may not) know, I’m my own boss. I run a small company together with my love (see our website) It’s just the two of us, and since
we have our office right at home I can schedule my week anyway I like.
Since crisis struck, there’s not always enough work for the both of us
(anyone need a new bloglook/website? Mail me!) so most of the time my beloved manages the office on his own and I keep myself busy around the house. Housekeeping, laundry, shopping, cooking… and it leaves me a lot of time to create!
When Scrapping out Loud came with their last challenge I didn’t know what to make of it…

For this week we challenge you to Scrap a page about your favorite day of the week and tell us why it is your favorite day, or what makes it your favorite day.”

Because I can do whatever I like on any day of the week, I don’t have much of a favorite day. I DO have some returning rituals though, so I brainstormed about that a bit and look what I came up with!

(Warning!!! Lots of pictures ahead!)

Not today

‘Cause actually, it was last Tuesday that Scrapping out Lout came up with the new challenge –  and Tuesday I felt *@#!~##&!!?@**!!!!
I looked at the challenge and decided to use the Word of the Week (“Today“)
– combined with my feeling – right away!
I took my camera and played!

It was yesterday that it became clear where the feeling had come from, yep, that time of the month… I don’t have to explain any further, do I ladies? So I took an aspirin and started making the LO with the photo’s
I took (using the sketch also)

And today? Today my son is here (I’m a co-parent, he has been at his dad’s the last days) and he’s been ill for almost a week. Having the flue and a nasty cough. He stayed home from school last week and he’s sleeping even longer as adolescents use to do when they get a change… (He stayed in bed for so long today that I went upstairs to look if he was still alive!)

Today I also took another look at the LO I made and… Oh, well,
take a look at it yourself.

When all the laughter
dies in sorrow…

The Word of the Week over at Scrapping out Loud is “laughter”
I found this poem by Kendrew Lascelles:

When all the laughter dies in sorrow
And the tears have risen to a flood
When all the wars have found a cause
In human wisdom and in blood
Do you think they’ll cry in sadness
Do you think the eye will blink
Do you think they’ll curse the madness
Do you even think they’ll think

When all the great galactic systems
Sigh to a frozen halt in space
Do you think there will be some remnant
Of beauty of the human race
Do you think there will be a vestige
Or a sniffle or a cosmic tear
Do you think a greater thinking thing
Will give a damn that man was here

And the breathtaking photo comes from a free stockphoto site.

Dutch delight

Prepare for another colourful lay out!!!
Scrapping out Loud came with this challenge:

“Split complimentary color challenge:
We have another color challenge for you all this week… but this time you are to use only 3 split complimentary colors from the color wheel on your layout….not sure what split complimentary means, check out the color wheel…”

I made you this example so you get an
idea what “split complimentary” means.

(I enlightened the 3 colours

That’s what friends are for

Fun challenge over at Scrapping Out Loud!

“Song Title/Lyrics Challenge: Our challenge for this week is to use a line
or phrase from the song “That’s What Friends Are For” by Dionne Warwick anywhere on your layout… (click on the title for the complete lyrics)”

I used the same lyrics before when I made a CD and little book to go with it for my dear friend Lena, but hey, that was not a real “scrap” (you can take a look at that mini book here) so why not do it again?!
