Doors of perception

May 10, 2010 By Marit

After a week filled with work, work, work… I desperately needed some
“me time” this weekend. Because my son went to Amsterdam with
some friends, and my beloved took care of some household chores
(thanks love!) I got the Saturday AND the Sunday “off”! YEAY!!!

I had some unfinished
business to take care of
and there was also a
cybercrop going on over
at Scrapbooking from
the inside out
, so I took
all my stuff downstairs
to the dining table and
had a blast!!!

As you can see,
I even had my
sewing machine
stand by…
It’s been a while
since I sewed on
a layout – I LOVE
this detail photo!

..

I couldn’t play along with all the challenges given on the “Scrapping from
the Inside Out” boards – I had too many other layouts and pages waiting
(and some of them HAD to be done due to deadlines) but I managed to
sneak in ONE challenge…. Rachel provided us with two marvelous photos
from which we could choose.

I immediately fell in love with the photo of the door, and when my beloved
saw the printed photo it reminded him of a line from a poem by William Blake.
It’s the line which “The Doors” took to name their band after…

“If the doors of perception were cleansed every thing would appear to man
as it is, infinite”

I wanted the photo to get all the attention, so I kept it simple…
Black cardboard. I sewed the white cardboard on to it and journaled the quote
with a black marker. That’s it. LOVE IT!

..

I also worked on the latest prompt for “A Year in the Life of an Art Journal”
The word is “tears”… I had some ideas and am half way, but got stuck and so
I put it aside… gonna look at it again later this week. It needs some time…

..

And I made a card for Mothers Day, but I totally forgot to take a picture!
It’s odd… I do make cards occasionally but somehow I always forget to take
photos of it! I guess I don’t see my cards as “layouts”… they go in the mail
and I realize I should have taken a photo long after it’s gone…

..

And I had a blast making “something” else…

Well, where is it?

*teehee* – you will have to wait until May 15th for that one!
I’ll keep it a secret until then.

..

And last but not least, I finished the “week 18” page in my weekly journal.
I LOVE playing and “letting it loose” in this journal… I’m so glad I started it!

Michelle asked me the other day “do you create it one day at a time, or sum
up the week at the end?”

Well, I only did two “weeks” now and I find myself working on the background
a little bit during the week… I paint it a bit and I lay images aside that I “might
use”. Both times, I wrote the journaling in the weekend, but that may change.
I want it to be a “fluid” journal, and I might not journal every single day but
pick the “highlights” of the week. I’m still searching – and don’t know where
this will end but I’m satisfied with the pages I have now.

I got the inspiration to start a journal like this from Judy Wise (if you
come to her site, click on “blog” and scroll down to see her journal pages in
different posts).

..

One last thing before I go…
If you go to the public gallery on my website, you can see the first layout
made by Lena for the workshop “A Creative Art Journey” (lesson #1)

..

And now I’m off to have me a well deserved after-diner coffee, as diner was
hours ago!!! Have a good week you all!

Je t’embrasse!
