Freewheelin’ Friday (#18)

April 16, 2010 By Marit

is it Friday again already?
Yes… Oh. Ehm…
Do I have something to show you?

Well of course I do!!!

..

It’s totally hot for challenge blogs to be in “Ning” these days,
with a community and a forum that come along with that.
I find myself a member of different ning-groups already!
Yep, you have to register if you want to participate in the challenges
which means uploading your avatar again, making another profile
(copy-paste are working overtime!) not to speak from uploading all
the layouts for different challenges into different ning-galleries… pfew!
You almost have to keep an administration next to the computer –
writing down where to put all your work…
But if you want to scroll through my work I’ll make it easy on you:
the galleries on the top menu of this blog contains ALL my work!!!

After having this said – you felt it coming huh?
Yep, last week “The Creative Type” a challenge blog where I play along
sometimes – moved from their regular blog to a ning-group…

Say no more.

Here’s their challenge:
“use your favorite quotes, song lyrics, or special family sayings
on your page or as the theme for your page.”

And here’s my page:

The quote:
I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes
enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness,
who does not believe me naive or innocent, who has the courage to treat me
like a woman – Anais Nin

The background is made of dictionary paper, some pieces of sheet music
and sprayed tissue paper with a lot of gel medium. I wrote the quote with
white and black markers and, as you see, I’m still not over the “photo transfer
thing”… does it bother you?

..

In my online workshop “Let it Loose” the participants learn to bind the art
journal pages together as in this example, so each student ends up with
their own, handmade book.

(I made an
instruction
video on
how to
do that.
Students
told me that
it was very
clear and
they could
do it right away,
so don’t
let this photo
scare you off
to register…)

In the other online workshop “A Creative Art Journey” students are free to
choose where they will work on. It may be an old (altered) book, a sketch
book, digital or even 12 x 12 layouts…

And of course I had to think about it too… for I make examples
with each prompt.

Inspired by something I saw a few weeks ago I gave it a try and I made me
this box last week – to put my examples in!

It’s made of thick aquarelle paper, and it still needs to be altered, but I thought
I’d show you this ’cause it looks great already!

I make the examples/prompts on basic white cardboard which I cut into
squares, 9 x 9 inch. (And yes, I have done quite a few examples already but
ofcourse I won’t show you these here on my blog. Before photographing this
box I put some plain paper on top *teehee*)

And if you wonder what that ribbon is for?
Take a look here…

… with the ribbon (which is glued between the edges of the box) I can lift
the papers and take them out of the box without damaging anything.

..

Last couple of days, a lot of new challenges came online and since I have an
“off weekend” – it can be filled with anything I like – I hope to work on a couple.
I don’t think I will be able to do all these challenges (some have a later due date
so it’s no must) but I will see where inspiration takes me.
And in case you’re in the mood for creating and you have a lack of ideas,
here’s the list of challenges I came across and you might like too:

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal – prompt #6 already, but you can still join
and do the former challenges whenever you want/have the time.
The word is “Move” and the extra technique is “use paint”

Created by hand – You have ’till Monday to create something (anything)
using #13 as your inspiration.

Gutter Girlz – The prompt: It’s No Secret The song: Everybody Knows
by Concrete Blonde (Find the songlyrics on their blog. There’s no product or
technique this Month…) You have ’till the end of April.

Scrapping the Music – The song is “40 Dogs” by Bob Schneider (find the
Music playing and the lyrics on the blog) Deadline: Tuesday, MCT.

The Color Room – Palette #2 {his room} is up and I like this colour
combo (dark blue, brownish and beige – go look for yourself!)

These are a Few of my Favorite Things – Your fave city.
Link your layout in their comment section by the evening of April 28th.

GO HAVE A CREATIVE WEEKEND!!!
Je t’embrasse!
