Freewheelin’ Friday #20
Queensday

April 30, 2010 By Marit

(Warning: picture overload!!!!)

Good morning you all!
Today is queensday
in the Netherlands
and although the sun
isn’t shining, I will
spend the afternoon
outside trying to score
some useful goodies
on the giant flee market!

For you foreigners
who have no idea
what “queensday”
in the Netherlands
is all about, and for
you Dutchies who
want to have a good
laugh… you have to
have a look at this!!!!

(but you may want to watch when your children are out of the room!!!)

And the first photo in my post today shows the tree in our front yard
bursting with blossom.

..

..

Today’s post contains a lot of photo’s so I won’t ramble as much as I usually
do – if I did, this post would go on forever!
I’ll stick to a little bit of explanation and captions with the photo’s

Ready?

POETRY FESTIVAL LANDGRAAF

Last weekend, I went with my mum to the poetry festival in Langraaf
(I wrote about that on May 24)

The weather was beautiful – as was the landscape surrounding the hotel so
we went for a little walk.

Saturday afternoon: poets gather in the courtyard of the hotel.
Most of the writers know each other from previous events but they don’t meet
very often. They were all happy to see each other again and the afternoon and
evening were filled with talk, laughter, good food and alcohol (LOTS of it!
MAN, those writers are serious DRINKERS!!!)

On Sunday morning my mum had to teach workshops to children.
There were ten writers (all famous for their children poems) who teaches
workshops, and they worked in pairs. My mum was linked to Ted van Lieshout.

Talking about poetry – mum and Ted worked together before and so they
are well adapted to each other.

Erik van Os and Kees Spiering teaching the older children (teenagers)

SCRAPBOOKING FROM THE INSIDE OUT

A while ago, I discovered Scrapbooking from the inside out
This site provides a Monthly scrapkit for scrapbookers who want to “explore
their inner lives and deepest thoughts and dreams.”
Each kit has a theme (former themes were for example: Loss – Generosity –
Peace – Possibility – Passion – Nostalgia)
I don’t have the budget to buy these kits every Month but this concept spoke
to me right away and when I found out there is a DT-call going on, I submitted.
Waaahhhh, I would LOVE to be a part of this exceptional team so keep your
fingers crossed everyone…!!!

Last Month’s theme was “Femininity”. Although I haven’t got the kit, I played
along with a challenge (there are challenges with each “theme” – and there’s
a lot of talking and some nice girls on the community)

Here’s what I made for the April challenge #6 “Synonyms/Word Cloud”

(you had to use words that relate to yourself and your femininity)

The background paper is Paper House Productions, and the photo shows
my nightdress (transferred the photo with gel medium – what’s new)

Words: Free spirit, daughter, woman, sexy, paper junk, mum, artist, fair,
vulnerable, strong, Libra.

I have quite
a number of
Alpha templates
in my stash
and it was
fun to get
them all out
and fool around
with different
types and words.

I used a plain
pencil and
I highlighted
some words
with my pink
copic marker.

WEEKLY ART JOURNAL

I don’t think
you will remember
this book…

Bree sent it
to me last
September with
a note in it
saying:“this book
belongs to my
fabulous friend
Marit. I hope
you’ll turn this
into a magnificent
Art Journal”

I pulled it out of the
closet last week and
I have big plans with it!

..

First, I taped pages together to make it stronger.

I used masking tape for it, and I could only find it in purple.. but hey, I kinda
like how it looked so I went on with it.

There’s a total of 36 (double) pages in it and those are the number of weeks
left in this year. I plan to make this my “weekly journal” and will write/draw
(or whatever I feel like) “what happens in my life”  in this book.
I used to keep diaries, but since I create otherwise I hardly write anymore.
It’s about time I let the two meet… my creativeness in images AND words!
In fact, that is the meaning of an art journal after all… so I’ll give it a try!

I prepared the page for this week. I used happy and orange colours and,
because of queensday, I drew a little “queen”. I hope to fill this page with
more text and drawings and images – but it’s a start!

I don’t draw
or paint faces
that often.
It is difficult
but I think
this little
queen looks
kinda nice.

The crown is
made with
spray ink and
highlighted
with a golden
marker.

..

..

The queen visits my old town Middelburg today, so I’m gonna watch it on tv
(see if I recognize some old friends there *teehee*) and after that it will be
time for me to hit town! Hope I can find me some cheap stuff on the flee
market. Hope your weekend is beautiful!!!

And for all the Dutchies… enjoy your queensday!!!!
Je t’embrasse!
