Freewheelin’ Friday (#6)

January 22, 2010 By Marit

Hi there ladies, it’s Friday again!
The sun is shining, birds are twinklin’ and I woke up with SPRING on my mind!
But it isn’t here yet – and another cold period is predicted so I won’t get my
expectations too high…

Thanks for all the remarks you made on my former post/layout!
I can tell you really looked with a different eye at the layout after I asked
to comment on it… and you all seriously gave it a thought (did you learn
something from that? teehee – I’m such a teacher! It’s in my blood!)

I agree with most of you that the balance isn’t right.
Now I could change that by adding a border, or extra “heaviness” like some
of you suggested, but I won’t work on it anymore ’cause it served its purpose…
(the WHY part – remember?)

My “wrong” layout was made to break through the block I was feeling after
not being creative for a while. (Well, not creative with real paper and stuff
anyway, I spend the week at the computer typing the lessons for the
workshop) So when I pulled out my scrapping stuff, I stared at the page and
wanted it to be “real good” and that feeling sucks, you know.
I became totally paralyzed and afraid to start.
So I thought to break through it and just “do something… anything”!
I usually am more concentrated – stepping back and fort to look at the results
or put it away for a while – but I didn’t do that this time.
It was important to just “feel the ink” again… it was the making that mattered.

I had a giggle over Helen’s comment ’cause without knowing this background
story, she saw it!

“…the impression is that you’ve taken a background and plonked a photo on it.
Obviously you’ve MADE the background, but still I think that’s the problem.”

Yes, I MADE the background – but that was maybe Months ago!
I couldn’t use it back then – but I used it now to “plonk my photo on”
as she points it so well!

Maybe this all had something to do with “growing pains”.
Me, wanting to move on (I got a bit bored of the spray ink lately) and trying
something different for a change – not knowing which direction it will take me.

And I broke through it, did something “new” after the “wrong layout” (which
isn’t really “wrong” after all…) and here’s what I made for my Artful Amblings
journal. (One Year in the Life of an Art Journal)

The first prompt is “WHAT”.
What is it that has stopped you from starting a journal?
What is holding you back? What is stopping you? What are you afraid of?
What is keeping you from your potential?

My art journal is made out of thick aquarelle paper pages so I decided to
use water paint for the background. The circle and little scraps are torn out
of and old dictionary – pointing words that relate to my journaling.
The image is cut out from a fashion magazine. For the title I used an old
template that I bought when I started scrapbooking, and the journaling
is about me, creating secretly for a long time – and the reason why.

This way of art journaling is a mix of my style and the things I saw on different
art journal blogs – and I like it a lot. I don’t know where this will bring me, but
the creative journey is interesting and fun and that’s what counts!

I’ll leave you with some links to the art journal ladies I got inspired by
(I discovered a few more last weeks, the names are also in my side menu)

Nancy Baumiller (Crowabout) – This is one of the first “Art Journal ladies”
I found on the Internet so Nancy has a special place in my heart.
I still love her way of making collages and how she fools around with
images, words and colours.

Judy Wise – I discovered Judy last week (thanks to the “One Year…. group!)
and I love the way how she uses her bulk-journaling in her journals!

Ingrid Dijkers – This was a surprise! I saw her art months ago somewhere
on the Internet and my jaw hit the ground (look at her Alice in Wonderland
tunnel book
…) but I forgot to make a note of the site or the name of the
artist – and I couldn’t remember it later. Last week, Heather put a link on
the “One Year…” forum, and it linked right back to her!!! I found her again!!!
Yeahaa, thank you Heather!

I have enough inspiration to get me through the weekend!!!
Hope yours will be great to!

Je t’embrasse!
