My son was here last week!
But he met no devil , no.
Only nice people, and a lot of old blues men…
And he didn’t sell his soul – Pfew!
(Some of you – most of you maybe – will have no idea what I’m talking about
so a little explanation will come in handy I guess…
The photo of the sign was taken in Clarksdale!
Clarksdale Mississippi is the Birthplace and World Capital of the Blues
and location of the famous Crossroads intersection of Highway 61 and 49.
At the crossroads – according to the legend – Robert Johnson sold his soul
to the devil to become the best blues guitar player of all time)
..
I like the blues – but not today.
Today I show you a layout inspired by a happy song!
..
..
The song at Scrapping the Music this week is “Shiny happy People” (REM)
My guest designer term ends with this layout – and this week I donate the prize
for the winner. You can win a free spot in my online Art Journal workshop
Let it Loose that starts September 6.
So what are you waiting for?
Turn on the happy music, start creating, be happy and win a happy prize!!!
Here’s what I made – a 12 x 12 layout
The photo of the two hands bound together with ribbon and thread
comes from a magazine. This ritual is called “handfasting” and it is
an old custom / ceremony to symbolize the bond between lovers
(or friends) It is mostly used at weddings, to ratify the marriage.
I used all kinds of alpha-stickers to spray the title.
(NOTE! If you want to use stickers as a mask, make sure they are not
too sticky anymore. Stick them to a piece of cloth several times to make
them less sticky before you use it on your paper, otherwise it will ruin
your paper when you try to get it off later!)
I sprayed with Tim Holtz spray ink (Red Pepper) and doodled the frame
and the black dots behind the title.
..
Talkin’ about sticky… I sticked to the “skinnies” this week and made two more.

Because the seize
of a skinny card
is 3 x 5 inch,
which is slightly
bigger then an
ATC (2,5 x 3,5)
I could use my
favourite stamp:
the running lady!
I’m still totally
in love with this
stamp bought at
VivaLasVegaStamps
The background
is a picture cut
out of a magazine.
..
When I saw this image
of a little perfume bottle
hanging on a cord,
I looked for some sort
of text to go with it.
I found a long poem about
perfume “The Scent of Blue”
written by Catherine Czerkawska.
It spoke to me right away!
This poem is not only
about perfume
– it expresses how
a woman gets older
and how the scents
of her perfume change
over the years…
I used only a part of the poem here,
you should read the original!
When I e-mailed Catherine a photo of my skinny card and asked if she
was OK when I publish it here on my blog, I got the sweetest mail back!
Her kind words made my heart sing! Thanks Catherine!
..
I stated in my former post that I find the “skinny cards” not very skinny
after all… not as much as I thought anyway – so I thought of challenging
myself and YOU today. Make a REAL SKINNY layout.
Maybe something like 3 x 10 inch. Or a third of a layout (4 x 12 inch)
Ah, the seize doesn’t really matter much, but it has to be long and small.
If you play along, e-mail me a photo of your “real skinny skinny” (or a link
where I can find it) before next Friday and I will publish them all on my
blog on Friday, August 5th! (Hey, you could even combine the Scrapping
the Music challenge and make a “shiny happy skinny”!) This is just for fun –
no prizes involved here – or you have to send it to STM 😉 – but I’m curious
how much of you will feel challenged by this and what you create!
Let’s make it a shiny happy weekend!!!
Je t’embrasse.
