Yep, I’m careful in my statements, but I can tell you that I definitely grew.
\nNot in length –\u00a0I’m still approximately 5.5 feet – but my self confidence
\nabout my art has got a major boost this week!<\/p>\n

It started with a “Lotus layout” last\u00a0Monday (it will be on the Lotus Paperie
\nblog this Friday) and to be honest, I disliked the challenge.
\nIt was totally NOT my thing… and no-one could have been more surprised
\nthen myself\u00a0when I saw the result. I made a gorgeous layout, if I may say so.
\nI put it on our side table and looked at it all evening. I was so happy!<\/p>\n

I had plans (already printed the photo) to make a layout for the new
\nchallenge over at “Scrapping the Music” and I told my beloved that
\nI was afraid to start working on it, ’cause I expected it wouldn’t be
\nany good… I thought I could never make another\u00a0beautiful\u00a0layout\u00a0
\nright the day after the\u00a0Lotus one. I\u00a0presume that’s what musicians feel
\nafter making a hit-album –\u00a0the pressure to do it again becomes too
\nbig – the next album\u00a0almost always is disappointing.<\/p>\n

So yesterday morning I surfed around on the Internet a bit, postponing the
\ncreating moment, and came across this post on Bethany’s blog<\/a>
\nIt opened my eyes! She wrote exactly what I am feeling and over thinking
\nthese last weeks, I had\/have to make some choices according my work and art
\nand she just put my thoughts into words.
\nIt gave me such a boost!
\nThe pressure to “achieve” vanished.
\nI went downstairs and started this layout.<\/p>\n

And guess what?
\nIt’s gorgeous too!
\nI can do it.
\nI can get rid\u00a0of the pressure, have fun creating, stretch myself and make
\nanother beautiful layout. Right the next day!<\/p>\n

So I grew.
\nJust a tiny little bit maybe, but such an important bit!
\nI can honestly say to myself now: “Stick to yourself.\u00a0Do it your own way
\nand then the layout will reflect you\u00a0and you’re OK”<\/p>\n

And now you wanna see the layout?

The challenge at Scrapping the Music<\/a> is a song called “Beautiful Dawn”
\nby the Wailin Jennys. (click here<\/a> to read the full lyrics)<\/p>\n

Used materials:
\nCardboard, painted with gesso (border)
\nBlack paper
\nGrey tissue paper. (wrinkled, sprayed with spray ink and a streak of gesso)
\nGesso (on the black paper) with spray ink.
\nMachine stitching
\nBlack sharpie<\/p>\n

The photo deserves a little extra attention ’cause it is important to know
\nwhat\/where this is, to fully appreciate the layout.
\nThis is a road just outside the little village I was born, and it leads to
\nthe dunes and the beach (you still can see the darker shadow of\u00a0the dunes
\nbehind the roof of that house. But maybe you can’t – is it only\u00a0for me
\nto see\u00a0it ’cause I KNOW it’s there and this image is so familiar to me…)\u00a0

I end this post with apologies ’cause I might have made several
\ngrammatical mistakes trying to explain my feelings in English.
\nMost of the time, it’s not a problem writing in another language,
\nbut when it comes to “deeper feeling” it’s hard to find the right words.
