A Breath Of Fresh Air

March 22, 2013 By Marit 22 Comments

Last Friday, someone asked “What will you do for haiku when you run out of book covers?”
Well, find a photo and write a haiku myself I guess, like I did before.
But I haven’t run out of covers yet (my bookcase is huge!) so here’s another booktitle haiku.

Haiku My Heart Friday

Naar de vuurtoren

Het lied van de oceaan

Hier is mijn eiland

To The Lighthouse

Thoughts By The Ocean

Here Is My Island

This haiku was found/written for Haiku my Heart Friday. Visit Rebecca at Recuerda Mi Corazon to find the list of participants and blog-hop from haiku to haiku. I assure you, it is a nice way to close the week and start the weekend.

I have two art pieces to show you – an old and a new one.
The first one is an art journal spread I made in January,

Veranderd (‘changed’)

The text is in Dutch and a bit of a free translation from this text:
“…Was I the same when I got up this morning?
I almost think I can remember feeling a little different…
”
~ Alice in Wonderland ~

Next is my latest Chronicles spread

The Chronicles – Week 11

I know a lot of Dutch blogreaders/friends always try to read the journaling… I’ll make it easy for you this time: the journaling is all about my struggle with sigarettes and since Saturday (March 16) I quit smoking. Yes, dear ones… this 30-years-of-smoking junkie is without nicotine for the seventh day today – no medicines, no ‘nicotine chewing gum’, no nothing: I quit cold turkey. BAM!
Yes, I am proud of myself.

Oh, and my beloved did the same.
I am proud of him too.

PERSEVERE is my ‘one little word’ of the year – I hope to stick to it.

I wish you all a nice weekend.
Go breath some fresh air!
Ha!

Well done Marit. If you waver just think “I could have one anytime but I will wait a bit”. I did this twenty years ago and have never looked back. I have posted my New Jersey “visit” http://alteringthoughts.blogspot.co.uk/2013/03/new-jersey.html . Looking forward to Dakota.

congratulations Marit, this is the best gift you can give yourself. My mother did it the same way. It was hard for her, but she did it and has not smoked for 25 years now. I love your haiku, beautiful. I wish you courage on this new journey of a cigarette free lifestyle!

Wow – congratulations to you and Marius for quitting smoking! It makes me think of the first art piece I ever saw of yours – it was a mini-album called “Coffee and cigarettes.” Loved it, but I’m still happy that you quit! Love both of your journal pages and your haiku too!

Your dimensionality is intense and brilliant. Thanks for sharing both. It really shows how fantastic of an artist (and reader apparently!!!) you are. lol I love your colors and the pensiveness of each art piece. Happy Balzer-ing. Lovies, Samara

I’m glad to see someone else selecting a word for the year. “Persevere” is an excellent word. Mine is “feast.”

I love the haiku – makes me want to go to the sea and see an island. But then, everything makes me want to go to the sea ! 😉

Love the Alice quote. I certainly have had mornings when I have felt like that !

Congrats on the quitting smoking !!!!!
I have been free fromthose monsters for 4 1/2 years now. It truly was the hardest and best thing I have ever done for myself. I did it cold turkey too. When the moment is right, it is right.
I hope you have an awesome week, Brilliant One !
