It’s Sunday afternoon as I write this blogpost and in a few hours the European Championship soccer match Netherlands – Czech Republic starts**… when you read this, it will be old news who won and which country is through to the last round. I did watch a lot of the matches, especially in the week that I had to stay home from work due to cataract surgery. The surgery went very well but I had to keep calm in the day’s after (don’t bend over, don’t lift, don’t exert too much.) I couldn’t do much more than watch tv so I was glad some matches were played and broadcasted in the afternoon. I also watched a lot of (old) episodes of “Escape to the Country” – I fell in love with those lovely cottages in the Welsh countryside! But at the moment everything gets overshadowed by the Tour de France, my favorite annual sport event, hence the background page in my Chronicles art journal that’s on my desk right now.
(**Yup, I saw the match and know the score…. and you English people: congratulations!)
Due to the cataract surgery I wasn’t able to work in my art journal much and when my eyes got better and days passed, I did a little bit at a time, careful not to bend over or work too long at my desk. That’s the reason I used big bold images and lettering, and I kinda like the results!
The Chronicles of Marit 2021- Week 21
The images I you see in Weeks 22 and 23 were inspired by the art journal pages Nancy Baumiller @crowaboutstudio published on instagram. I discovered Nancy and her – mostly “Zetti” – pages a long time ago but had not seen her latest work… I was surprised to see she creates pages in paint.

Morning Marit and I am glad to see the surgery went well and that you enjoyed the football – up to a point! That was a shock result. So was the England one!!

So glad the cataract surgery is working, think you’ve been very sensible about how much you do whilst recovering! Not sure you would be happy creating pages in all paint, your fingers would twitch for magazines and other media! Big or small, you lettering always looks good and always seems to fit the space you’ve got…that’s a skill, Marit!

Glad your surgery went well. I think it’s clever where you keep your pens. Easy to see, too. Your journal pages are always so well done and so clever, even if I can’t read them. The last one is my favorite, I think. Happy WOYWW from # 12.

Happy WOYWW. I am not a football fan and neither is hubby, so we haven’t watched any of the matches. I did hear that England won yesterday. Being big cycling fans, the next 3 weeks of the Tour de France means that we are watching the highlights every evening. I do sometimes try to watch some stages live, especially the big mountain ones (and first and last day), but haven’t had a chance to sit down in the afternoon so far. The scenery I love. However, the big crashes have been very upsetting. Glad to hear you are healing from your cataracts surgery. I love your bold journal pages. Ali x #15

Escape to the Country is my guilty pleasure as well!! I do love it, especially when they come to Wales, which of course, is a wonderful place to live in…but I’m biased! I’m glad you’re getting better after the surgery, you’ll soon be able to get out and about and with amazing vision too, fantastic! I love the Tour de France as well but the first couple of days were carnage….I’m so happy for Mark Cavendish winning yesterday!

Good that you can start journaling again, Marit! Glad the surgery went well – I’m so squeamish about eyes – I’d rather not think about it! Me and my husband are big fans of Escape to the Country – we used to watch it avidly when we were house hunting – even thought about going on the programme – and always had a competition between the two of us to predict the price. The important thing about guessing the price is not what you think it is worth – it’s always a lot higher LOL! I was so happy about the England win, even though I don’t like football. Did you know England hadn’t won against Germany since 1966! It was a long time coming! Hope your eyes get better and better every day and you can do more journalling! xx zsuzsa #31

Wow, your pages are fabulous! I don’t know that artist, but your pages are really good! I hope the cataract surgery healing will go quickly! I can’t imagine! You find out quickly how much our eyes mean to us when you can use them at 100% right? Blessings for the rest of your week! Felicia #30

Hi Marit! Loving your latest pages, good to see you are able to get back to creating even if you have to take it slowly!! I can’t comment on the sport as I’m not really interested – I purposely didn’t watch the England game yesterday as they always seem to lose when I do – it seemed to work! (A good excuse too!) Happy WOYWW, stay safe, stay well, love n hugs Cindy #18

I am glad you are doing OK after your cataract operation, Marit. I am about to be in the same position not being allowed to lift things! Funny how that’s a restriction after a lot of different operations. I love your journal pages – well done being able to do any at all after your surgery. I am glad you have had some enjoyable TV to watch as well.
Things are beginning to fall into place now for my upcoming surgery on 9th, with my first phone appointment today and another tomorrow, so I know more about when and where I am supposed to go!
Happy belated WOYWW,
