Goodmorning sweeties, another Wednesday and I’m here to show what’s on my desk today. It’s not the regular desk in my atelier that I took a photo from this morning… this is the coffee table in the living room that shows the new project I started yesterday…
Yep, that’s crochet… and how come I started crocheting again?
That’s a bit of a story….. you probably know we moved houses last Spring and the new home still isn’t totally ‘finished’ and decorated. The apartment we live in now is way smaller than our former houses and for example, our big couch did not fit in the new living room. (I gave it away to a former neighbor and we sit on old chairs until we find a new couch we like.) We also have all of our books still in boxes stored at my parents… the book case does not fit the living room either – so you see it was/is quite a challenge to make a plan and re-arrange things in the new home. Luckely, the book case could be taken apart. We put a small part in the living room that contains ‘music’ (my beloved has a lot of elpee’s) and a big part is in my atelier (you can see that here)
So what about all the books? We thought it over during the Summer and came to the conclusion that we have to get rid of a lots of books. We have a rather big bedroom and there’s space to put up a book case there – not as big as we were used to but we can keep some of our most loved books then. So last week we went to Ikea and bought two of those famous ‘Billy’ book cases… together with a smaller book case that came from the former atelier, it fills up a corner in the bedroom. And now the big task of going through the book titles will begin soon.
Overseeing the bedroom – with the soon to fill book case corner and all – I thought it would be nice to make a bed spread as a finishing touch so that’s the reason I started crocheting. Not a hippie-granny-square blanket this time. That’s nice for the guest beds but not something we want in our own bedroom. I googled and found a crocheted cushion and a tutorial on this blog: LINDEVROUW’s WEB.
Both my beloved and I liked the ‘woven’ pattern so I bought a lot of acrylic wool and started crocheting. The bed cover will be 2 x 2 meters and I crochet bigger squares to keep the balance.
This blogpost is getting rather long… so let me stop talking and start showing the two art journal spreads I created in my ‘Junk journal’.
There’s a lot more to show and tell but I keep that for another post. I am now going to enjoy the beautiful Autumn day here in Middelburg and hope to visit the other ‘deskers’ later. Thanks for stopping by!
Morning Marit. I love the pattern of that cushion – and the thought of converting it to a bedspread – wonderful. Oh, I feel for you, having to get rid of some of your books. OUCH!! That would hurt so much. I love reading – real books, not kindle books. You can’t cuddle up to a kindle with a hot chocolate, or take it to read tucked down in bed… I regularly visit charity shops, buy some books, read them, then decide whether I want to keep them or send them to a different shop – lots of win-win going on in that process! Erm – confession time – I have five bookcases, plus books in lots of other places spread around the bungalow as well. Oops!
Take care. God bless.

Hi Marit, I totally get the book problem. We had to make the decision to send a huge number to charity shops a few years ago. Kept only our most loved ones. We had so many, and like you our rooms are quite small, so we’d reached the limit of the number of bookcases we could accommodate. Love the journal pages, funny and unusual. Have a lovely week, Hugs, Shaz #6 X
When we moved to Wales, I downsized our book collection and didn’t feel guilty at all about doing it – most of the excess went to the Oxfam charity bookshop so it was helping to raise money. We have two Billy bookcases now and that holds everything nicely and do I regret getting rid of the books? Nope, haven’t missed them at all – we are trying to live a lighter life. By the way my hubby has a serious vinyl stash too, just like your partner, lol!

PS Love the crochet too!
LOVE that cushion!! I just want to cuddle it…
And great journal pages!
Happy WOYWW 🙂

I can’t wait to see the finished bedspread Marit as the pattern you are using is lovely. Good luck working your way through all those books; I can’t bring myself to part with books, so visit the library regularly now we have run out of space for more lol. Happy WOYWW. Sarah #3
that cushion looks wonderful! moving to a smaller home must be a real challenge when you have to get rid of things, I hope you get fully sorted soon. Love the journal pages, as well. Helen #4
I love books but like you just collected too many over the years so gave many away to charity. it’s difficult with books, you can hardly throw them away, it wouldn’t be right or is it just me. I guess you could recycle them too. Have a great woyww and a happy crafty week, Angela x16x
Great photos! Have a great week. Dorlene #28
That’s a wonderful pattern Marit, really looking forward to seeing the completed project. Crochet always looks so neat and tidy.
It can be so difficult to downsize when we have so many treasures amongst our possessions, I am having the same problem since finally getting round to sort out my shared Kitchen/craft area I am now slowly working around the house in the hope of decluttering everything else.. it will take me years..
Your journal pages this week look full of mischief with those sticking out tongues hee hee!!
Wishing you a wonderful week Hugs Tracey #5
Downsizing books – such a hard thing to do! We have two rooms in our basement dedicated to books – even with stacks like a library! I know at some point we will have to sort through, many haven’t been read yet, but I keep buying more! Addiction? I think so. Anyway, good luck with your sorting, your new home sounds like fun!
What a huge job crocheting your bedspread, but it will look awesome when it’s done! Interesting journal pages, especially the bright red tongue! What are you “blehing” about?
Have a great week, Lindart #29
