Faces & woyww #385

October 19, 2016 By Marit 20 Comments

Goodmorning lovely ones… another Wednesday, a rainy Wednesday (can you see the rain splatters on my window?) but that gives me a good excuse to stay inside and spend the day in my atelier. Never a dull moment ay?

WOYWW #385

My neat desk is screaming for a colorful mess, don’t you agree?

There’s two canvasses on my desk that I worked on over the weekend. The big one lay in the atelier for weeks with only a background and a rough sketch (some sort of face) on it. I kinda blocked after that… I’m not good at painting faces so I was almost at the point of wiping it off, but then I saw the work of Cuban artist Hector Frank (thanks for the link Seth!) and I got inspired right away. A face does not have to look realistic after all…

It’s not finished yet, but I like the way it is going.

Next painting is made on a piece of cardboard (I told you I was inspired!) and it’s on my desk because I am in doubt if it is finished or not… should I work on it some more (the eye, the mouth?) or leave it as is. What do you think?

I also bound a new journal last week; it’s the book at the back (to the left on the picture) that you can hardly see because of the reflection of the light on the cover. I wove beads to the binding so the spine looks very special but I show the photos some other time. After all, miss Julia doesn’t like it when we write long posts. So this is it for today, enjoy your week. Go do something fun. Paint a face!

Hi Marit, great inspiration. Many great artists- think Picasso- didn’t go for realistic either! Have a great week, Hugs, Shaz #4 xxx

I think if you look at the masters painting most paint faces as they see them and don’t worry about them being realistic. I also think that you are doing a super job with the canvases! I like them! Have a great week. Vickie #11

    Hi Marit,

I like your canvases! Your faces remind me of the very cool stuffed characters with different sized buttons for eyes, etc. Lots of personality!! I haven’t tried drawing a face but have watched several youtube videos on the subject.

    Happy WOYWW

So tidy! Your desk is just begging for some color and life… though I’m always interested in the way people have their supplies organized. Have a great week! Heather (waywardgypsy) #50? #51?

So pleased you kept the face as I love it. I tend to think that if you are not sure what to do next on a project then wait for a while before doing anything and the ideas will come. Have good crafty week and great woyww, Angela x 17

LOVE your faces! I think you being inspired has inspired me!
As for the one you were asking about, I think the eyes are fine but that the mouth MIGHT need a little something extra. But, what do I know? It’s your art and your vision. Go with your gut!

Paint a face….that makes me laugh! YOU paint the faces, I’ll admire them! I like the interpretive faces, what a great idea. I know they don’t need to be lifelike, but as he (he?) has facial features, how about a piercing or a hat? See, I don’t know!!

Happy Belated WOYWW. I am glad that faces do not need to look like faces, as I am rubbish at them! I love both of your projects – and I am inspired to try that style myself. Ali x #27

A nicely clean and tidy desk this week, as always! I do love your little “labels” for everything. I couldn’t do that – far too much mess on mine!

I’m super late arriving this week, almost in time for next week!
