Good morning lovely ones.
Time flies, it’s june and Quirky Dutch Summer is about to start!

“Quirky Dutch Summer” is a regularly recurring blog-event during the Summer months. During Quirky Duch Summer (or QDS) I publish special, inspirational posts in both English and Dutch on a weekly base. Posts filled with inspiration and short tutorials written by me and several guest artists. You can basically just see the series as a free – 10 week – ‘summer art school’.

Now that the Summer is near, my island is buzzing with activities, festivals, music and tourists… a LOT of tourists. However, the beach is empty when you go there very early in the morning and the other day, my friend Lena did just that. She went for a long walk along the seaside.
I choose this photo to write a haiku with because the image reminded me of my favourite fairy tale: the Little Mermaid – and I don’t mean the sugar-sweet children’s version that Disney made out of it, but the original story written by Hans Christian Andersen where, at the end, “(…) the little mermaid cannot bring herself to kill the sleeping prince lying with his new bride, and she throws the knife and herself off the ship into the water just as dawn breaks. Her body dissolves into foam…”

I submit this haiku to Recuerda Mi Corazon where our lovely hostess Rebecca brings us all together to share a haiku on Friday: Haiku my Heart.
I did all kinds of things in the past weeks: I wrote Quirky blog posts, spend time with my parents, went for (long and short) walks with my beloved, sat in the sun reading a book and spend an afternoon ‘Urban Sketching’ with a friend. When I was in my atelier, I mostly sat at the computer and my Chronicles art journal got neglected. This is the last spread I created a while ago
The Chronicles of Marit 2019 – Week 20
I plan some extra time in the atelier to create this weekend and I will ignore computer-social-media-business. It’s about time I dip my hands into paint again! I wish you a beautiful weekend too, fill it with happy colours!
Je t’embrasse.

Your haiku is wonderful. It is sad. It brings the reader into that world.
Yes, we do have cranes here. Lots and lots of them. All types, big, little, white, brown, blue, even green (well, the green heron). Happy week ahead to you. Many tourists here too. Its the season. Its also hurricane season. eeeek!
Luv your sweet sad haiku. Thanks for the notes on the little mermaid faidy tale.
