Goodmorning, goodmorning lovely ones! I hope you’re still with me y’all, and not melted in these last few days… MAN, can you believe this warmth? It’s the end of August and yet another heathwave hit the Netherlands… I don’t know if you, over in the UK, had these temperatures but it sure wasn’t fun overhere. Today the weather will turn around and I am looking forward to a heavy rainstorm that will allow me to breath again.
Despite the heath, I am making progress with a big project that I started some time ago: transferring photos of my journal pages onto a big canvas. When all the transferring is finished, I will work on top of it some more… it’s the first time I do such a thing so we will see where it ends…
Last week, I could not show you the ‘thingie’ I made for a ‘lovely person’ because she had not received it yet… now she has so I can publish these photos. The ‘lovely person’ is Anne, she is the cousin of my mother and we always have difficulties defining what that makes her to me… for fun, we call each other all kinds of things (like ‘lovely person’ or ‘BFM’ (Best Family Member.)
Anne is a great textile artist and when I drooled over a bag she published on her Facebook page, she said she would make one for my birthday. It’s not my birthday yet but she made it anyway, and in return I made her a fun booklet. I collaged six ‘sisters’ which I gave names with the numbers in it. I wrote funny verses to go with the images… it is in Dutch of course and it does not rhyme in English, but I’ll try to give a translation with the pages.
Harmonica booklet “Six made up, whining, sisters from Zeeland” (closed/cover)
Harmonica booklet “Six Sisters” (open)
Sister no. EEN (one)
There’s despondent Leen, the woman complains all the time
Sister no. TWEE (two)
Arrogant Annatweef, chooses her men with a sieve.
Sister no. DRIE (three)
Reluctant Adrieaan, is always afraid to lose her face.
Sister no. VIER (four)
Honorable Elvier, she lives a modest life.
Sister no. VIJF (five)
Frustrated Genevijf is a real bitch.
Sister no. ZES (six)
Imaginative Franzes, that’s the one with the success.
Anne had finished the bag already but we’d agreed that she would send it when she got my ‘present’… as you know, I mailed the booklet last week and yesterday a big envelope arrived in my mailbox containing this…
The bag Anne made for me (both sides)
Ain’t it groovy???!!! It fits the ‘Woodstock mood’ I am still in, and I am waaaaayyy happy with this patchwork bag. THANK YOU SO MUCH ANNE!!!
And that’s it for today folks,
have a great day, keep on rockin’ in the free world!

Hi Marit.
Oh my goodness, you and Anne have both been so lucky in this gift exchange – I would have been thrilled to receive either one! I love how the patchwork theme runs through both, and how the colour palettes are also very similar. You are clearly kindred spirits.

We’ve had the heat here in Kent.. It’s been apparently hotter than Barbados! That’s ridiculous. Summer can just bog right off now – roll on Autumn.
I adore both your book – that collage is divine and your bag. What gorgeous gifts to each other.
Have a lovely week,

Oh Marit, still have not seen you wearing the lovely skirt! Was thinking you might show it with the bag you just received. Fab bag by the way and so Woodstock!
The harmonica book (which we call a concertina book I think) – well that is fabulous! I love it. What a lot of fun you must have had making it. Great cover and the sisters are just wonderful. Love how colourful it is.
Thanks for sharing it with us

Anne’s bag is just gorgeous, and how you’ll think of her every time you use it, I love that about such gifts. And your return gift is wonderful, I bet she loves it, i love your lettering on the front of it, do you do it in pencil first or just attack?!! Sounds like we’re on the end of summer now, and although its still lovely and warm, the sun is definitely looking autumnal…my garden has fallen leaves in it!
