Get It On! {Monoprints}

September 30, 2013 By Marit 8 Comments

Art, and especially art journaling, can be very therapeutic and healing. In the mids of time when I was in a very dark place, I shut down. I was completely absent-minded and could not even see a pen or brush. However, the moment I saw a little light around me, my art journals were the first things to grab and hold on to. Writing has always been my ‘way out of it’ and since I started art journaling, the art-part has been add to that.

A few weeks ago, my friend Anne-Marie emailed me song lyrics that she thought I might like to read because in her eyes the text was referring to what I felt at the time… and she was right!

The lyrics are part 2 of a song by the Dutch artist Bram Vermeulen. Translated, the title means something like “Get it on!” I could only find Bram performing part 1 of the song on the internet (De Beuk Erin I – a song worth listening to, especially if you understand Dutch) but I used the lyrics of part 2 on my pages. De Beuk Erin II (lyrics)

I made just the perfect monotypes to go with the text…

I combined two gelatin monotypes (the two left pages) with a painted page (right) in my art journal ‘De Zeeuwse Ziel’ to make this triptych.

Here are the pages once again – separately photographed – to give you a better view.

This week starts with blue skies and sunshine… let’s hope it stays that way and that it will turn out to be a good week. In any case, it will be a special week to me ’cause it is my birhthday next Wednesday… can you believe I will be fifty?!! Woooohooooo… GET IT ON!

Ik hou erg van de fellere kleuren die je hebt gebruikt. Ik hoop dat je die vrolijke kleurtjes hebt gebruikt omdat het met jou weer wat beter gaat…?
