After writing a long article for Creatief met Foto’s this morning
I think I almost reached my quota of words that I have in one day
(and that’s a LOT – Peggy knows 😀 )
I’ve been staring at this blank blogpost-page for a while now,
and I really don’t know much to say… so let’s go straight to images.
(Note: All images enlarge when you click on them, for a better view)
The chronicles of Marit – week 3
When we visited my parents last weekend, my mom gave me a photo book
with marvelous, big photos of desert landscapes in it, to use in my art journals
(I also got a lot more materials and magazines to use in my work – she collects
all kinds of things for me and she knows just what I like! Thanks mom!!!).
I choose this picture to use as a background for week 3. It wasn’t the most
beautiful photo in the book (I didn’t dare to work with that one right away)
but still I had trouble writing on the photo… and it shows on the page.
It looks a bit forced and timid… but it’s okay.
The next page for A Year in the Life of an Art Journal is the opposite…
I LOVE THIS PAGE!
It turned out exactly as I wanted it to look, with the exact ‘feeling’. YEAY!!!
This was the last prompt for 2010
Vision: What is your vision for the new year? Or for your life in general?
What does the word “vision” mean to you?
Journaling: Do I have a vision for 2011? I have an overall idea on what
I expect and want to achieve next year but is it a vision? Ooh, those English
words and subtle meanings. I still struggle with them sometimes. I hope to
continue the personal art journey that I started. I hope to walk the path
that I am on a little further. Explore more possibilities. Learn. Teach.
Discover. Play. Create. Stay true to myself. Be happy. Be healthy. Be me.
At the end of the day, I played with a dip pen, a brush and Indian ink.
I hadn’t worked with Indian ink since art school, and it was fun to fool
around with the stuff again. I could feel my drawing skills coming back
and I plan to keep on sketching and drawing every now and then – to
improve my skills but, most of all, because it’s FUN and I can do it with
less light (it’s still dark early in the Netherlands!)
I’m not very good at drawing faces, so I focus on that. (And next is hands,
I already surfed the Internet for tutorial movies on Youtube)
I must admit, I like the ‘boy in the middle – with his waving rake-hands –
and the buildings the best. If the faces won’t work, I can always go draw
skylines and buildings. Ha!
And this were my words for today. In a blogpost that is.
(I save a few to whisper in my beloved’s ear later this evening…)
P.S. On my website, I published work of students
who are in my Let it Loose workshop. Go take a look!
You can find the layouts in the Public Gallery

Your mom’s book images are awesome ! I can see why it would be hard to write on them but oh, what a background they provide !
Your pages are wonderful Marit !And I love your ink play. India Ink and the dip pen are some of my very favorite tools in my own journal. I love to hear of other re-discovering them. I think the boy with the rake fingers and his city have a story to share…
Happy Creating !

I honestly forget that you don’t speak English as a first language…you are SO good!
Your artwork speaks volumes Marit.
That hand is WOW and your boy with the surprised hair and rake hands 😉 IS super…there is no end to your talent!
I can only imagine that with a creative daughter like you…it is lots of fun for your sweet Mom to collect things for you!

Hi Marit. Wonderful pages. I love what you did with the landscape and sectioned the journaling in between. I don’t think it looks forced, it looks great. =)

beautiful work Marit – that page with the hand is incredible. I love how you altered the landscape photo, too – so inspiring!

I actually like how you speak English – sometimes I think we can be more literal and honest in another language as we don’t know all the accepted subterfuges and hidden messages that we have ingrained in our native tongues. What a lovely present from you mother – she definitely knows you and what things will be perfect for your art. I felt something strange when I read your comments about geting out the pen and inks – I received a set of handle and nibs and a jar of ink for Christmas – it is sitting on my easel – I have been doing lots of sketching and drawing this past month so it is very cool to see your sketches. I haven’t shown any on my blog but you are giving me the courage to do it. Have a wonderful week and thanks for all the inspiration!

Wow Marit, mooie pagina’s weer!

Yay, thanks for showing your faces. I love them. You and I can learn to do hands together.
