Most of you – especially the ‘diehard scrapbookers’ – know Ali Edwards
and her annual ‘One Little Word’ project. Instead of making a resolution
list at the end of the year, the idea is to choose a word that will guide you
and motivate you throughout the year. It sounds a bit silly maybe, that
one little word can help you all through the year, but I learned it sure does!
The first year I started with this OLW tradition (2010) I choose the word
SMILE, because my life was in a dip and I was rapidly heading towards
becoming a grumpy lady. The word stayed with me all year and made me
focus on the good things in life. Even my artwork became brighter and more
colourful.
For 2011 my word was AWARENESS
(read my considerations and reasons why in this blogpost)
..
The word AWARENESS has been on my mind a lot lately. Although it was
there all year long in the back of my head, last months I seemed to really
NEEDED it! I faced some major changes, both in my personal life (my son
moving out) as well as business-wise (teaching a live workshop, starting up
FEATURING – my own magazine) This word kept me sharp. I often said it
to myself: ‘are you truly aware?’ It helped me look further, taking into account
everyone’s emotions, showed alternative ways to go and possibilities and
made me alert to oversee the consequences of different approaches.
Wow, it’s a powerful word!
Last week, out of the blue, my new word for next year arose.
It’s early, I know, it’s not even December yet! It probably has to do with
my new goals for next year.
The due date for the FEATURING team submissions was last week and I had
to make choices. Which people fit the team? It’s never easy to make a choice
and that’s when this word popped up: CORE.
I have to stay close to my core. My wishes, my dreams – what I want this
magazine to be – are the most important thing and I choose people for the
team who I truly feel are capable of helping with that. Reading their resume
and the test-article they wrote, it felt like they had the same vision and view.
My feelings were confirmed by Annemarie, who agreed months ago to be my
text editor and is helping me with the magazine ever since. Annemarie had
chosen the exact same names and had the same ideas about the content of
all the submissions we got! AWARENESS and CORE worked together on this!
Oh, and don’t worry… the new members are informed and the names will soon
be announced on the FEATURING website…
That’s a lot of text I wrote there… hm, time for a picture then.
(yes, there’s only one page to show this time)
The Chronicles of Marit – Week 46
(23 x 31 cm - 9.1 x 12.2 inch)
I know, I know, there’s a lot of blurred text. I had a lot to reflect on and
spit out on the page last week, and I rather keep it private. But you can
see the overall ‘feel’ of the page, right?
And that’s it for today dear ones.
I wish you all a nice week.
Be AWARE and guard your CORE!
Holy cow, Marit! That was a lot of writing not only on the blog, but also on the Chronicles of Marit!
My word for the year was Creativity. I vowed to explore different avenues of creativity and think this year was the perfect year to do so. I was just thinking about my word for this next year as well. My word is BOLD. I have promised myself to be Bolder.
I have picked words for the last two years … and done nothing with them. I know how powerful they can be, so I need to get my butt in gear! It isn’t like there are not things I want to change in my life, ya know? LOL.
I can’t wait to see the magazine!
Love this page! My word for 2011 was “Awake”
Great words!! Love your page!!!! I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes on deciding a team, but so glad you’ve found the right people! Wish I was better at art journaling…then I would have tried out! ๐
My 2011 word has been Restore. I’m still mulling over 2012 but I think it might be FOCUS
Your journal pages always inspire me. I am anxious to hear more about Featuring.
Moest meteen aan de mist denken die al een paar dagen “rondhangt”… Een geweldige en wat mij betreft zeer toepasselijke page weer! Heel veel succes EN plezier met je magazine!
Wow! That’s a lot of journaling. Love the birds. ๐
Glad your team is coming together.
I remember when you chose SMILE…and I remember how happy it made me :):):):):) And I remember when you chose awareness… in fact that word helped me chose mine this year! :):):):) I loveeeeeeeeee your page and good luck with choosing your team! :):):):):):):):):):):)
It’s a wonderful page, and so much writing! ๐
I don’t have a word for the year, but have decided that maybe next year I’ll try it and see what happens. Now, I just need to find the right word.
I like your choice of words Marit! I think my word for this year should have been “drifting”! I am so pleased that you have made progress with Featuring – it’s going to be fabulous and just what we need in the Mixed Media world. I have taken orders already – how cool is that?! xoxoxo
“Core” is a heavy word. But with possible lightness to add. I had no idea that the magazine is your child. I am waiting on the first issue…
I love your page with the words and the birds. And you don’t even have to explain why words are blurry. I thought art journaling was just that: writing for yourself. Sharing what you want to share. Beautiful page that is very eye pleasing to look at.
I remember we both chose “A” words of the year this year ๐ I too have been thinking of mine for 2012…it is fast approaching!
when I think of you dear Marit I think of someone very in touch with their creativity…heART and core…it’s a brilliant word
I have gotten miserably behind in blogland for too many reasons to go into
I miss you!
