Old, New and woyww #199

March 27, 2013 By Marit 27 Comments

Good morning, good morning – it’s Wednesday and you know what that means: Tales from the Studio! Yep, I’ll show you what’s going on in my crafty space (new work!) and I also have a ‘golden oldie’ layout for you – lifted at a blogreader’s requests – from one of my scrapbook albums. (As most of you know, I don’t scrapbook anymore – I’m more of a mixed media art journaler nowadays.)

Well – here we go, come on in sweeties…

Sue (MiniOwner) asked me to open album 6 and show Layout #21… and when I did that, this was what I found:

Walcherse Dracht

This layout is made in November 2009 and shows me (photo on the left) in the traditional “Zeeuws Costume”. You can read more – and see detail photos – about this layout ánd the ‘background story’ in THIS OLD POST

And here is something new I want to show…
Erm… it does not look that new at first – it is an old, rusty, metal index card box I got from my dad a few years ago. It stood in the closet all those years. Sometimes I took it out, wondering what I should do with it. A few weeks ago I put it on my desk to have it near. I stared at it from time to time and suddenly I knew!

I decided to call it the Box of Longing and to make little collages on the indexcards inside.

Some of you will remember my Letters from the Wasteland  and I wanted to do something similar with the index cards in the box. Here are the first, small collages I made.

To The Ends Of The Earth

The Simple Truth

New Worlds To Discover

I submit these little collages to Glue it Tuesday – a new blogseries that Aimee from Artsyville started. If you don’t know Aimee, check out her blog! She’s a huge inspiration for all creative souls!

Now that I decided what I wanted to use the index card box for, it was about time to alter it.
How does a ‘Box of Longing’ look like? Hmmm… the first ‘altering round’ can be seen on my work desk this morning. It’s not done by any means, but the box looks better already compared to the old, rusty metal look it had. There’s more ‘waiting until it is dry’ on my desk this morning ’cause yesterday I was so clever to prepare some so I would find it all dry and ready to continue working on this morning.

That’s it for today dear ones. I’m off to visit some of the other work desks now.
Happy Wednesday!

Funny you should mention a ‘box of longing’ as I was only thinking of mum having had a ‘promise box’ that had little scriptures rolled up inside. You took one out each day and read it. I used to love my turn when I was a child.
Enjoy your box and hope it reminds you of your father each time you use it.
Now off to check that older post – intriguing.
Thanks for visiting me – Happy Easter and Happy WOYWW – Hugs, Neet xx 1
ps the palette I had on my desk the other week with the lid – it is a Ranger one, I got mine from Ali-Craft

I absolutely love this post. I love the “open an album….” exercise, I love the box of longing, and I am so going back to see the Letters from the Wasteland, as if I saw that in the past I have totally forgotten it and just the name makes me want to see it 🙂

    Happy WOYWW!!

I love your box of longing! I love doing index card sized collages, and having a great box to keep them in is so fun! It’s so pretty and inviting with it’s new tissue paper coating, too.

I love the old file box idea, I’ve got a very boring old brown plastic one that could certainly do with “cheering up”. What a fantastic photo of you in costume…makes a great page.
Happy WOYWW and many thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment. Pam #21

Hi Marit..Happy WOYWW.. Shang-a-Lang, so many interesting things to see. First I went and looked at your layout in that old post and then read about the fabulous (and crazy, but love it LOL) idea of the stuff you left outside to disintegrate – that led me to Seths blog and then I remembered I should be looking at your WOYWW ha ha… Great desk too, Love your ‘Box of longing’.
Thanks for stopping by also and answering my butterfly dilemma question – think you’ve hit the nail on the head – it was the size thats too big – THANK YOU. Have a lovely weekend/Easter… Gill x #75

Such a fun post! I love seeing your busy art-making space, and I really love your index card collages! What a great collection your will amass for your altered box. And you’ll be all ready to carry on with Tammy’s (Daisy Yellow) ICAD challenge if she does it again this year!
