Good morning sweeties… here’s another ‘What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday’ post but it’s a bit different than my usual desk photo. First: there’s nothing interesting laying on my desk at the moment and second: the atelier floor is the place to be right now! How come? Well, last week my beloved and I went to a lecture by friend/artist Marlou Pluijmaekers. She talked about the differences and similarities in the art of Rembrandt, Picasso and Morandi. It was a very interesting evening that catapult me back in time. Back to art-school, where I sat in a dark classroom viewing art slides and learning art history. I also remembered I once painted a still life that reminds me of Morandi…
So yesterday, I pulled out my old portfolio to look for it. I flipped through the drawings and paintings that I made back in the eighties…
… and yes, I found the old still life painting! It now hangs on my wall in the atelier and this is my photo for today’s “what’s on (erm, ABOVE) my desk.”
But there was so much more in that portfolio! I grabbed my camera and took some snapshots…
Bird sketches
Bird – monoprint
I really liked the model drawing lessons back then… and I saved quite a stack of sketches. Here’s just one of these paintings…
I would love to pick up model painting again… (I will have to look if there’s any course or workshops taught here in the area.)
And to close this rather long post off, I show you my latest scrapbook layout… yep, I kept my word and created another scrapbook layout. The photo was taken a few weeks ago of me and my son on the roof of the student-house in Nijmegen where he rented a room. He started studying in Amsterdam after the Summer holidays and he found a room there. As of next week, he will live in Amsterdam so this was the last change to take a photo of us on the roof of the old house.
Op het dak (On the roof)
And that’s it for today folks… thanks for visiting!
I envy you for having an art background going back decades, Marit! I didn’t even discover art until just a couple of years ago! Oh those wasted years! I would love to go into a creative profession if I could do it all again. Loving your old sketches and that old book you kept them in. Very arty, indeed! Your layout is awesome as well – I had to look up “op het dak” – on the roof, of course! Love all the random pattern in it! Enjoy your week, zsuzsa #22
Your layout is lovely. I like the layers. I really enjoyed a peek at your long ago art portfolio. Fantastic. And of course, your still life looks like it’s found the perfect home. Happy Wednesday, LisaDV #36
Hi Marit, oh my, those art pieces are amazing. How exciting that must have been. Have great week, Hugs Shaz#8 xx
Lovely art portfolio! I may have to revisit my own too – there are some usable sketches in there I think. As for workshops in your vicinity: take a look at Cultuurhuis Kuiperspoort in Middelburg. I did a model/nudes course there years ago and it was fantastic! Let me know when you decide to go: Maybe I’ll join you!
PS: another lovely scrapbook page!
Lovely art portfolio! Thanks for sharing all your wonderful pictures. It must be interesting to look back and see what you’ve done in years past.
Have a great week

don’t you love going through the boxes of memorabilia and reaching back through the years to capture the moment all over again! I didn’t start ‘arting’ as my daughter calls it until a few years ago…6-7 to be exact. I probably would have quite my RN and turned bohemian had I known how much fun it would be! Thanks for visiting my desk earlier and leaving such a nice comment! Have a great week. VIckie #25
wow, Marit, you have such talent!! I love your portfolio and am glad some of it is now on the wall! Helen #2
I love to look back at old art work that I’ve done in the past though I’m not always sure that everyone else would want to see it but yours is great. Have a brilliant woyww and happy crafting, Angela x 19
Hi Marit..thanks for visiting my blog today. I wish I could draw an inkling of how well you do. I love the black and white birds..if that was scrapbook paper I would be buying it. Oh and your layout is fab!
