Hi lovelies, happy Wednesday to you! It is another WOYWW* day and I am very late showing my desk for the reason that I decided to clean the windows today. I figured I better do that before writing a blog post because once I am in my atelier chances are that I won’t come out until dinner time 😉 So household first it was and we have a LOT of windows in our apartment…
After lunch, I took a photo of my desk as I left it yesterday.
(What’s On Your Work desk? Wednesday (WOYWW) is a bloghop series hosted by Julia from the UK. Artists from all over the world post a photo of their desk on their blog and leave a link at Julia’s blog. More info about woyww can be found here.)
Because the weather is bright and sunny today the photos all came out dark. I had to use a flashlight which overexposes the pages in the journal… Here’s a detail photo of the sketch I made on the page.
I don’t like this sketch at all! It’s to universal… no character in this face and I will probably erase it and start over.
That’s unlike the blind drawings I showed you last week… I LOVE the faces that come out when I sketch with my eyes closed! There’s so much more character and feeling in these portraits! I told you I wanted to work on the sketches some more but didn’t know what to do… Julia commented: “The blind drawing is brilliant, you wont cover up too much of it will you?”
No, I didn’t.
I just added some bistre-powder with some water sprayed on.
The first drawing became a mess…
… but I really do like the this one!
I might create more of these drawings instead of sketching ‘common girls’ – but not this afternoon. I have some hours left before dinner and I plan on visiting a lot of your blogs/desks.
One more thing before I go: THANK YOU ALL for your sweet words and sympathy about all the noise I had to deal with in our apartment in the last weeks. I haven’t heard any drilling, hammering or milling this week so I have good hope they’re done with the renovation. Phew!
That. The nice weather ánd the clean windows make me a happy camper today. Let the sunshine in, the suuuun shiinnne iiiiinnnn!!
I like the sketch too, but you’re wright that the other ones have more character, but maybe you can add character to your sketch with texture, color,..? Thanks for stopping by, I’m actually looking into buying some new ones myself as I had so much fun yesterday trying all kind of new techniques.lol.Vicky#7
You’re right about the character of the blind drawings. Pretty and having character don’t usually go together in real life either, LOL! I tend to go for pretty still, but I’m sure I’ll grow out of it at one point! Thanks for visiting earlier! Enjoy the sunshine! zsuzsa #40
I love those “blind” sketches, too. I have found that when I sketch, if I do it in one continuous line without lifting my pencil, I get a much freer sketch as well.

Haha, what an idea! Your blind drawings are awesome! I really like that.
I’m happy for you that the noise has stopped and also that the sun is shining in Holland! I talked to my mum last night and she told me it was nice weather. (for a change).
Happy WOYWW and have a great week,
Lisca
Oh, these are fun! And I do love how roomy your work surface is. Happy Wednesday! Sandy Leigh #39
How fun to be right in the window like that. It’s been so long since I’ve visited I forgot about your window and all your lovely labeling. The blind drawers are much more fun! I hope the renovations are done. Nothing like banging around to make you hate apartment life (we’ve lived in ours 12 years without noise issues and the last few months we got a two new and noisy neighbors). PJ #55
I totally agree with the blind drawing having more character and it’s probably more fun too. Something I’ll put on my things-to-try-list as exploring new things is always both challenging and inspiring. After days and days of heavy rain and wind we’ve had two days of nice sunshine in my part of France and it makes me happy too, but my windows are not clean. I promised myself I’d do it before going back to work next week.
I’m glad the noise finally quietened down. I hope it’s over. Good for you – doing the housework first. I did mine the other way around lol. Did my post, exercise, cleaned bathroom, hoovered and then sped around the world visiting desks.
The second one reminds me of a crazy professor. I think the girl could have character once painted. If you don’t give up on her I hope you let us see the results.
Happy WOYWW

Your blind drawings are very attractive, especially with bister !
Your first portrait is very nicely done. However, I can see how the blind contour drawings “have so much more character and feeling.” Happy WOYWW!
I admire people who can draw or sketch and you can tell what they’re doing (drawing’s not my strong point, you can tell!) Helen #1
Much obliged to you for sharing these sketches.
I like the messy one even better! Love to both of you. Jenny
