Last Saturday, the Dutch celebrated ‘Queens day’.
I could go and explain what that means, for all foreigners who read my blog
and don’t know what I am talking about, but I have extensively done that
already two years ago in this post.
For crafty people like me, Queens day is one big day because the whole
country changes into a flea market… and you can imagine the fun goodies
that can be found and bought for give-away-prizes! You might have seen
photos of peoples ‘catches’ already on other Dutch blogs and I will show
you what I bought…
This year, I focused on books and magazines to use for collages!
The bottom magazine (see
the world map?) contains
small pictures of different
cultures.
The big book is a
children’s encyclopedia.
A book with photos of
Zeeland. (my hometown
region)
A stack of smaller
magazines(‘Taptoe’)
which contains a lot of
fun photos and images.
Ten glossy (fashion)
magazines.
And on top, a magazine (‘Libelle’) from 1953.
It weights a lot, and I had to bring it all home before I hit the town
for the second time!
I found three ‘Snoecks’ – very thick magazines/books that come out every
year highlighting the art, films, plays, fashion and hypes of that year.
Great ‘artsy’ photos inside!
Besides this, I bought me two novels from the Irish writer Maeve Binchy.
(50 cents each!) If you like reading, she writes the ultimate ‘Summer reads’.
(Good novels – no ‘literature’, but not too ‘simple’ either)
On to some art journaling now…
The new prompt at A Year in the Life of an Art Journal
THE PROMPT: Busy!
THE SONG: Manic Monday by the Bangles
PRODUCT/TECHNIQUE: Lace/trim
(8.3 x 7.7 inch)
Having your own company means that I don’t really work ‘9 to 5’.
Sometimes work gets crazy, and some periods are real slow with lots of
time to spend on creating. But life got a lot busier since I got the job
writing the articles for ‘Creatief met Foto’s‘. I mean, I write (almost) ALL
the articles!! The magazine comes out every other month. For me, that
means writing about 60 pages in 3 weeks every other month… and yep,
that can be called ‘Manic’…. I thought about this, while making my page.
I used a ‘text’ stamp to stamp the background. My son took this photo of me
for a project some time ago. I edited the photo in Photoshop. I used twill tape
(fabric) to stamp part of the lyrics on. I sewed the ribbon onto the page.
I also (machine) stitched a border.
The Chronicles of Marit 2011 – Week 17
(13.4 x 8.7 inch)
The photos of Ilse de Lange (see this post) are too beautiful not to use!
And ofcourse I had to document the ‘Royal wedding’. The image isn’t
high quality (I tore it out of the newspaper) but it will do as a reminder.
And this page is just for fun!
Laughing Yogi
(9.8 x 13.8 inch)
“Life is a travelling to the edge of knowledge. then a leap taken…”
~ David Herbert Lawrence ~
This awesome, big art journal has pages of thick, textured paper!
I used gesso, paint and water soluble crayons to colour it.
The figure is a pic from the Internet. I put my smiling guy stamp/head on top.
The quote is written with black markers (‘Steadler”‘) and copic markers.
The snails come from a magazine. I used a pearl pen for the dimensional dots.
The frame is made with all kinds of scraps.
You may have noticed that I put the sizes of each piece with the images.
I found out that sometimes it is confusing to my readers how big something is…
I will try to remember to note the measurements from now on.
Thanks for stopping by at my blog sweeties!
I wish you all a lovely, sunny week!
Ben jij nou echt iedere dag zo creatief?
Great LOs, and love the art journal – made me smile. Sounds like a really fun day, and you have lots of goodies to play with 🙂
WOW love the colors and pop of your layouts! 🙂
Great pages. My favorite? Manic Monday. You also got some great finds. How fun!

Wauw… al die boeken die je kocht voor een prikkie…!!! Ik ben zelf niet op “jacht” geweest naar koopjes, al heb ik daar nu wel een beetje spijt van!!!

WOWEE Queens day sounds totally awesome and you got some GREAT finds – awesome!! And what FUN LO’s 🙂 – love your whimsical style and use of color!! 🙂
Ohhhh, Marit! You are such an inspiration! Using the twill tape is so creative and clever, and what a wonderful texture it adds to your awesome page! I can’t imagine working in a journal as large as the page with your “Laughing Yogi” – it would be a challenge! I’ve just finished my long, self-imposed and much needed blogging break, and it was so nice to read your comment. It was a nice ‘welcome home’!!! Hugs, Terri xoxoxo
great flea market finds! and your art journal pages always amaze me!:)
I love that you stitched on your LO! Very cool beans Marit! And who knew Nout could take such amazing photos??? I mean, you probably did, but I had no idea!
I also love the Fat-bottomed girls… good old Freddy! My hubby opened as a fire-eater for Queen in San Francisco when they played Candlestick Park in the very early 80s. He said it was an awesome experience!!
The laughing Yogi is brilliant – I always find so much to inspire me here! And such fabulous buys – all those magazines for collaging – wow!
